When you say "I saved them as .jpg files", what do you mean? Where did the images originate? Did you just copy them across from a camera? If so, which particular camera?

Open As in Photoshop might well help in this situation.

(The header might be damaged, in which can PS could still open the file.)

OK, a bit tricky to tell what's going on in that case, without taking a look at one of the 'faulty' jpg files. If you were keen you could try uploading one to somewhere like http://www.mediafire.com/ and somebody might be able to figure it out, though of course you may prefer not to do that.

  • This free image viewer handles just about any image format, even if you're named them incorrectly (sounds like the OP may have copied and renamed these files away from their original format).

  • Tried photoshop:-

    Upload error
the file 01_NIKI.JPG failed to upload for the following reason:
    - photo dimensions exceed 12000x12000 pixels; file is an unsupported format; file is corrupt.

sooler is picassa online storage any good, does it do the same thing?

Yes - seems it is - 1 gigabyte of free storage, should be enough space to start with.

Do a web search for "repair jpg files" - you'll find various programs that claim to recover corrupt jpg file. Can't find a free one - but most have free trials - so you can try some out, and see if any work - then just pay for the one that works best.
  • I've noticed when looking back through archive CD/DVDs that only a few files survived on some cds, i was thinking the cd/dvds deteriate over the years even if they are stored correctly? Lost a lot of music and pictures etc but hey, i probably did buy the cheapest cd's i ould find at the time lol

Anyway as Sooler suggests i think online backup is the way to go. Skydrive, Flickr and even Facebook are all good and yep theres nothing wong with Picassa web albums its just as easy to use and share photos with :)
