  • I applied to open one of these 3.25% accounts at the end of last month, just-in-case.

I received a delayed letter asking for identification documents. It says I can supply two of:
    Phone bill
    Credit card statement
    Utility/council tax bill.

Fine. I phoned them up to confirm the rate for me was 3.25% (it is) and whether a bank statement was acceptable for a credit card statement (it is) and they said they have now changed their policy and they now need a certified copy of my passport or driving licence to open the account as well as these.

Has anyone recently applied and had hassle about this? Given the tiny benefit I'd get over a competitor's account, I'm not going to traipse around getting someone to certify passport copies (if they'll do it for free, which they might not).

It still says on the website that I need just supply the bills listed above. So has anyone else had difficulty over supplying identification documents? I'm tempted just to supply what they ask for on their letter and see what happens.

Yep! But I was only 16 at the time. But once I had sent it they were pretty quick about it.
