Insurance for iphone
Hi,
I'm going to get an iphone on contract with O2. I will be getting the old iphone, which looks like it's worth about £350 if bought on pay as you go. I want to get insurance to cover this. I have checked with my contents insurers however they will only cover up to £250 for mobile phones, and there is a £100 excess, so this wouldn't cover the price of the phone. I have looked at Martin's suggestions and the cheapest cover seems to be from about £4.20 or something similar per month, whereas the O2 insurance for iphones costs £10 a month! Does anyone have any ideas of alternatives? I know that some bank accounts offer add ons to their accounts, such as Barclays who charge £5 a month but you get phone insurance along with other perks, so wondering whether to open an account with them just to get the insurance. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks so much!:money:

the o2 insurance is a lot but the cover is quite good
excess is £25
covers loss, theft and accidental damage
offers worldwide replacement if you lose handset abroad
covers unauthorised calls if handset lost/stolen
gurantees a brand new replacement not a reconditioned if you need to claim
replacement is usually next day (depending on the time you make claim)
i have spoken to customers who have had their own insurnace with the iphone and they have not been able to cover it when they have had to make a claim so double check with the insurance company if they will actually cover the iphoneThe only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about - Oscar Wilde:beer:

I bought an iphone a week ago and at the time was offered insurance from o2 at £10 a month. initially i thought it was expensive but i'm so worried about losing it/having it stolen/it breaking etc that i'm seriously considering itVirtual Sealed Pot challenge #48Sealed Pot Challenge- #7290

I know what you mean I'm in the same boat - do I, don't I!!
Are there any other alternatives bar O2?0 -
Thanks all. It's a tough decision. Looking at Martin's guidance, if you are not someone who loses phones often (I haven't for years) then perhaps just save the money yourself! It is a difficult decision. I'm starting to think that I will just rely on my contents insurance and if I lose it and get £150 back then at least I have that much to spend on an alternative phone and I'd just have to live without the iphone for the rest of the contract!
