BT Broadband

HI All hope every one had a good xmas and new year.

I was just wondering if anybody new if this was true:

My bt land line and braodband were cutt off for non-payment which i ahve now paid off and owe them nothing. I called them and tried to get everything reconnected and was told that i have to get a pay as your go telelphone line for 12 months before they will put me on the normal billing system and that i can't have broadband for 12 months either.

Fine i thought until i was told by them that this mean i can get broadband AT ALL, not from bt or any other provider such as wanadoo or virgin.

Does anyone know if this is true or are they just trying to say this so i'll take there 24/7 dial up package.

Surely they can hold this kind of domination over the market???

All help and advice much appreciated!!

That's the problem with BT they can make their own rules up, and with them owning all the lines, and the fact that your broadband connection has to be enabled at the local exchange, what they said could well be true.

If your desperate you could offer to pay for your broadband package upfront i.e. pay a year in advance then you can go back onto monthly payment.

You could also try a letter to the regulator OFTEL, but they don't seem to be much good at sorting out problems in my experience

If you cant get broadband through your telephone line, you can apply for a satellite broadband for £18.50(256kbps) from,

Dont know about what hardware you'll need.

  • Thanks for your replies.

I have signed up to wanadoo in an attempt to see if they will allow it.

Do you think that if I got my partner to sign up in their name that this would make a difference?

    Thanks all
