I find you can make buttermilk at home quite cheaply. You need double cream and an electric whisk, and some angst or anger helps.... basically you over whip the cream until it separates into butter and buttermilk. Then you beat the butter to get out all the milk, then you have butter and buttermilk, use it for soda bread, moist muffins, scones etc......I tend to get the thick cream when it is reduced in the supermarket, make up lots of butter freeze it and chill the buttermilk.0
