Sometimes going cheap can hurt the environment. This board's been set up to counter that. How do you live life the MoneySaving way, but protect our planet too?

As environmental issues impact right across our lives, the issue is of course duplicated elsewhere, such as organic food buying in MoneySaving Old Style. Yet my aim is this is a forum that will cover cost cutting and enviromentally friendly and also ethical financial issues too.

It's a shame that since feed in tariff payments for solar PV have come out that this board is now swamped with solar investors. What these investors don't seem to care about is that their feed in tariffs are paid from an increase in everyone else's energy bills. Many people, especially the low paid are already struggling with higher energy bills without the additional burden of subsidising the energy bills of people who have installed PV, most of whom are middle income home owners.

An investment where the returns are guaranteed by a compulsory 'tax' on the bills of the poor has no place on a board set up to allow discussions about "ethical financial issues".

A solution might be to create a PV sub board to stop the main board from becoming swamped with PV investors?
  • I'm a newbie and stumbled upon this thread just now. Great idea and great topic! I'm sure I will be visiting regularly! :T
  • I agrree, but like I have heard so many times, sort the problems out at home before you sort out the worlds problems.
I also think saving money can benefit the both us and the environment.

Changing an old boiler to a grade-A as the green deal suggests is good, but it seems confusing. Help Link and British Gas offer us finance, it seems expensive. I have seen a company offering something called "The Warmer Deal" this might be a good way round the traditional problems.
  • Great thought!! I think everyone should know about this.
