If the RSPCA do reject you for working full-time please try other rescues, not just the big name ones as often the smaller or breed rescues are able consider you individual situation rather than having rigid policies.

The big rescues don't have rigid policies as at the end of the day like all rescues the sooner they can get rid of the dogs the sooner they give the space to another homeless or in need dog. They just want to make 100% sure that the dog is going to a loving home and the dog won't be returned to them.

There are rescues and breeders who don't make sure 100% sure the dog is going to a better place and if anyone really wants a dog they can get one regardless of there situation. You can also blantly lie to the bigger rescues. The point is if your turned down for a dog you really have to think about whether your in the right situation to have one at the moment instead of thinking well how else can I get one now they have turned me down.

Well thats good for you. However I have seen lots of posts disagreeing with your views but none that have insulted you. Maybe I miss them. However calling a group of people "village idiots" for disagreeing with you really shines you in a light.

Actually if you go read my post again you will find I said that if people dont go down the road of rescue rescue rescue then they are the ones treated like the village idiot - ie me

But hey - if the cap fits

I dont expect kudos or thanks for my posts. Im not here for a popularity contest. I just like to make a balanced case - something you in your "has to be rescue or else" posting frenzy cant seem to get your head around

If you think you are educating people, you arent. To educate, most people need to be able to see they whys and wherefores of both sides of an argument and whilst there are people like yourself so hell bent on grilling new posters and putting them off the idea of ever being able to get a pup or dog and at worse feeding them false information as fact, I will continue to post otherwise

It is after all a discussion board and not a rescue only board

And working for both a rescue and buying from breeders myself personally I do feel I am more then equipped to put through a more balanced case

While the internet allows us to hide behind our user names it also stops people knowing exactly who the person is. You may think you know more than everyone becuase of what you do but how do you know the rest of us don't have the experience and knowledge through what we do? Just because we don't feel the need to boast on why people should listen to us. Most people on this board seem to give their opnion and get on with their lives if people don't agree with them. I suggest you do the same.

I think you need to re-read Moomin's post again - what she/he was saying that big names don't have the time to consider individual cases and that is why they rather stick to their policies to make 100% sure that the dog is fine. Where the smaller ones have that time. She wasn't contradicting you on that one. You just keep repeating yourself now.

Suki - my next door neighbourghs are retired and the lady wishes for dog very much, but the gentleman doesn't want to go through the grief of loosig one again so she would like to help with our dog during the day.

Also my F&MIL live near by and if needed they would spend time with the dog. I actually suspect that they will spend loads of time with him:D

Dogpages is website? .co.uk or .com?

Don't they send out volunteers who talk to the potential new owner and assess it themselves then made a decision based on policies? I have never seen a rehoming centre where they have immediately rejected someone because they work full time without any discussion.

I do not think I know any more then anyone else but I do think i put forward a balanced arguement.

I think that if you look back through my posting history on this board Im all for prompting people to think about a rescue dog, but I will also give advice on finding a breeder.

I will also not tell someone that they cant even think about having a dog because they work, have children, live in a flat - all the things that you are so opposed to - because it is so not true. All are doable with thought

Can you please also show me any post of mine in which I "boast"? I only mentioned that I do work for a rescue to show Im not biased.

And if you think I "hide" I dont think so. I give enough about myself on this and other boards and live in such a small community that I would be easily found. I dont have anything to hide and I only continue to repost when you constantly make sweeping generalisations that are so untrue.

If people are asking for advice on this board then I will give them the benefit of MY experience, not make sweeping generalisations

That sounds an ideal situation, having a neighbour help out. The last lad I rehomed was to a working family but their parents had lost a dog and didnt want the heart break of another one so for them to visit daily to see to the pup was ideal for everyone concerned. The wee fella has grown into a smashing dog

I wish you all the best if finding the dog for you, its out there somewhere, in a rescue, a pound or at a breeders. Just take your time and let your head rule your heart ( difficult but needs to be done)

This might help anyone who works full time and wants to adopt a dog:

    Thank you very much.

My OH is the head, he tried to think of all possible difficulties and made me find answer for them before agreeing to this. His family always had a dog, but he was sent to public school since he was little, so although he did spend a lot of time with animals (they were also farming there:-)) he never actually owned a dog. So he can look at the situation with emotionally free view.

So what exactly is your problem? People give their views. You give yours. End of story. If the majority of the people on a board sway one way. You don't need to get upset that you want to sway the other way.
