insurers have been working on ways to reduce the annual premium to appear better priced and moving fees off the premium and charge them when admin occurs is one way to look better on price comparison lists.
What you have said is the case in a nutshell !!

Motor insurance has always been competitive but with the rise of price comparison websites it is there for everyone to see just what premiums each company charge
    .
Loyalty from the customer and from the insurer is a thing of the past and customers just look at what the annual premium will be

I am afraid this type is charging is common not just in insurance products it is the thin end of the wedge

You park at a hospital you pay to park

You phone your GP its a premium number .

You stay at a hotel (not a city centre one )you are charged to park in there car park .
You pay by credit card you are charged for the privileged

I will not even go to Airlines

    Rant over :D
  • Reading these sort of stories has made me more aware about the value of shopping around for insurance. In years gone by I have paid the premium asked. When I moved a few years ago my home insurance with a well known firm got what appeared really silly. For a modest house building and contence the year cost was nearly 800 pounds. I felt this was excessive. I did an online search and followed the advice on these forums and got a quote for approx 275 for exactly the same cover. When I phoned up the company I had been with they initally said that they could do me a special deal and knock 100 pounds of their quote.I felt that they were really just looking to take me for a ride. I have never claimed for anything on the policy over 18 years. I said this to them. Got passed to a supervisor etc. Got reduced to 600 ish. I said it was still excessive. This went on until they said that their bottom line was 450.I then asked about being a new customer and getting a better deal. They said They would match the price. 350 pounds I think. By this time I think they must of had enough of me. I said I had a better quote and they then said they would match it with no excesses. This was last year. This year same thing. They got rude and flippant. I found another company and paid about a third of their premium. So I think it is worth looking to see what is on orrer as personally I feel customer loyalty is not what it was.
