Bed recommendations?

But i had a feeling someone told me it made it weaker..not sure who..might have been someone in dreams where we bought the silentnight rubbish from in the first place! Thinking about it we had to wait weeks for it so maybe he was just trying to flog what was in stock which didn't have drawers!
What you have to remember is that the sales rep also sold you a Silentnight, so it looks like he either didn't have a clue about the products he was selling, or he didn't care.Nope..not had a chance to but intend to before we go buying anything anywhere. It's not likely to be for a few weeks though unfortunately.
When you do, then make a list of features that you like on each bed you try, then try and find a bed with all the features (excluding gimmicks).I really don't think it will be flimsy..if the rest of the range of furniture is anything to go by it will be solid and well made with proper joints - but i agree it's not very clear from the picture.
It looks like cheap imported knock down furniture like Traesco used to sell before they went bust. The best way to get an idea of the quality of pine furniture is to look at the drawer bottoms. The cheapest will be hardboard, slightly better quality will be plywood, the good quality ones will be match wood (proper wood). Also look at the bed posts. If they are made from one peice of wood rather than two or more layers glued together, then they will be better quality (this may not apply to this bed as it has quite thin posts).I get your point ...though this time round because the miracoil divan base has had it too we need the whole lot! I think a platform top would be best. I in particular tend to plonk myself down on the edge which can't have helped. Didn't realise you couldn't put pocket sprung straight on it..what would be the modification?
Divan with storage seems like the best use of space at the moment then. It's still not totally ideal as to access the back drawers will mean pulling the bed out to get past the cabinet but not a huge deal if we put spare bedding i suppose. What would be ideal is an ottoman-style storage divan but not sure it would fit into our budget (don't really know what it is yet..depends how generous our wedding guests are!).

You can get continental drawers, This is where the drawers at the head end are smaller, so that they can open around the bedside chests.0 -
Blimey, have I already told you????????????? I must be getting old, can't remember a darn thing about that  . Just ignore me, I'm crawling back into my hole now. :rotfl:
Tim, the drawers on our furniture all have proper wooden bottoms (not ply) and dovetail joints, back of wardrobe solid wood slats (tongue & groove i think), proper mortice/tenons in places like the wardrobe doors, though frame inside drawer units looks like it's nailed/glued together. There's a few bolts to make part assembly of the wardrobes easy - everything else was pre-assembled. All seems very sturdy though. I'm sure there is better quality out there but for the price the furniture was a good deal (i got a better deal than offered on the website). Whether the bed is as good i don't think can be proven without seeing it which makes it a risky purchase - though there are free returns to fall back on (but non-refundable delivery costs). It's in a different league to the rubbish Tesco sold me which i promptly sent back.
At the moment the divan set is the favoured option and seems less riskier purchase. Seen the continental drawers though my thinking is if i'm having drawers i may as well use all the available space and put the stuff that isn't used often at the back..what would be ideal is an additional drawer beyond the continental drawer or sliding storage doors at the head end and drawers at the feet - not seen anything like it though so i assume it's out of my price league!

Not directly no..but i contributed to a thread you mentioned it on a week or two ago.

That sounds good then if it is from the same range. I was just concerned as it only looks to have thing posts.
One thing you will notice when comparing prices of pine beds, is that the thickness of the posts can make a huge difference to the price of the bed. This is because it works out far more expensive to start with a 6" block of wood which is then planed and turned down to a 5" post, than it is to make 3" posts which you can get 4x as many out of the same block. At the moment the divan set is the favoured option and seems less riskier purchase. Slide store on the side is only usually available with single beds, and aren't as stong as those with drawers because they have a support missing.
If you want a slide store then it would be at the foot of the bed, then you would be able to have a drawer either side at the head end.0 -
Yes but i'm suggesting something beyond the usual options in that picture..
Like the four drawer divan base above ..but with small single slide doors either side in place of the drawers at the head end (sliding door going towards head of bed alongside where cabinets would be) which would enable the space under the top half divan to be accessed with cabinets alongside it still. Just seems to me a more common sense design than the continental drawers which don't make full use of the underbed space - though access would be limited a little.

I suppose it might be possible. I've never seen it before.0
