Upgrade Help (o2)

Hi, Sorry if this is in the wrong place or anything but I am new to this! :embarasse

I have had a contract with 02 for 7 years and am overdue my upgrade. I have been putting it off as o2 seem to have reduced the amount of handsets on their site and I couldn't decide which one I wanted! I decided on the Sony Ericsson W995 but it is still almost £100 on the tariff I want (24 months, 600 mins, 1000 texts, unlimited wi-fi £29.38). I have checked other sites and everyone else is offering the same phone free!
What is the best way to go about getting them to let me have it free?? Whenever I have tried before they have come out with some rubbish about not being able to!
I am not sure I would get credit with any other companies so don't really want to cancel my contract!!

Thanks so much for reading and fingers crossed someone can help!!

Have you phoned them and asked? The online stuff is usually overpriced.
Currently dialaphone do the phone free for £25 a month with o2 for 24 month contract (600mins, unlimited texts and four months half price).

I would be on phone to o2 telling them that and asking for a £20 minimum tarrif (18 months) if they want to keep your custom or you are off. I would actually go for ask for 12 month contract and just a pay a little more if need be.

Your experience might be bad - I have had very good experience with them thus far (fingers crossed). The only thing I have never liked is their automated voice recogonition system which sends you around in cycles.

But in this case, the OP does not need to use dialaphone or any other company, just speak to O2 direct for the upgrade.

Yup and hopefully o2 will strike up a deal since they are the best network in the uk
  • I doubt very much whether o2 will budge an inch to be honest!!
I'm in the same boat - been with o2 for 7 years, currently paying £20 p/m for 600 mins, 1000 texts and unlimited internet bolt-on - I must have called them 7 or 8 times to see what they can do for me and the best they offered for the W995 was an 18 month contract for £35 p/m for 600 mins & unlimited texts - with no internet use! (another £7.50 p/m)

The guy I spoke to said that they arent doing any deals on that phone coz the handset has been very expensive for them to get hold of!
Apparently the reason you can go (with o2) through CPW for £25 p/m is that they sourced their own handsets loads cheaper that o2 did!?!?!?

Very annoying as I dont really want to leave o2 but at this rate I might not have any choice!!

My friend was with o2 for years. He got the SE C905 last November from them for £50 (it was on their site at £100), and they reduced his montly payments to £20 for 600 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited internet. (I'm paying £35pm for the same deal, minus the internet, from CPW) He had quite a bit of trouble with the C905 (like the rest of us!), so o2 gave him the W995 for free!! They obviously can do deals on that handset!

In my experience of dealing with o2 in the past, it depends who answers the phone to you! Just keep phoning up and tell them that you're a loyal customer but you're considering leaving them because of more appealing deals you've seen elsewhere. It might take a few phonecalls, but you should get there in the end (phone them for free from your mobile). If you're contract's up for renewal and they're not letting you have the handset you want, ask them to reduce your contract to an o2 simplicity one to save you money til you get your way with the handset!

  • I must have spoken to 8 different people in retentions - even one that said I'd dropped lucky and that he was one of a few of them trialling a new procedure to improve retentions - and even he couldnt get to £25 p/m for the w995 with the package I wanted!!!

You could wait a couple of months and prices will come down.

Or if you are keen to stick to o2 - ask them for PAC code when you are 30 days from end of contract. Get a free sim from another network, port the number to the other provider on pay and go.

Order the w995 from a site like dialaphone for the cheaper deal offer (on o2) and port your number to that deal.

And note O2 are usually more keen to talk offers when they realise you are in the 30 month end period of a contract.
