As a few others have said volunteering can be a good outlet, especially if they understand the ups and downs of RA. Getting onto the right meds can make the world of difference.

Have a look at the National Rheumatoid Arthritis site some of the publications they produce have some really good info in. They also run a support network line they try and match you up with someone of a smiliar age and meds for support and an ear.

There's also NRAS support groups in Worcester and Birmingham, these can often be helpful too.

Hope you manage to get onto some meds that suit you soon.

    best wishes

    Jo.

Do other people suffer more in the winter, I do and I think the bordum hits in more this time of year as the pain is worse and I feel a little stiffer all I want to do is get home from work and get my pjs on but then I am and I am board all night

I certainly feel worse in the cold damp weather, something else that seems common is that MSG (monosodium glutamate - a flavour enhancer) seems to make it worse too..

RA does make things difficult, not only the pain and stiffness but also the fatigue side of it too.

Hope you're all not too creaky

Yes, the cold def makes mine worse. I don't have rheumatoid arthritis, but some very similar conditions.

There is a lot of boredom involved - I can barely socialise anymore, I'm always too tired to go out, and to be honest I've said no to so many people they've stopped asking. :( Even hobbies like writing or reading involve the wrists, which cause flare-ups. It's a crappy situation.

It varies from person to person. I had one and it took 4 days to work, and since them since i have had the injections I have felt no benefit from them!

I found when i had the steroid injection it took about 24 hours before kicking in but when it did i felt a million times better.

Thanks for that JoJo, I will check with my lone parent advisor when i go next week. I'm now on Jobseekers and to be honest I am not getting a look in anyway, have filled forms in for jobs everywhere and heard very little.
