‘Renaming’ a internet Link

Hello! Hopefully this is a simple question, but please make the answer VERY simple cos I’m rather thick when it comes to anything computer related.
I notice that often when people post internet links, they don’t actually post the actual link. It’s changed to a single word like ‘THIS’ or ‘HERE’ . This seems much neater, so how do I go about changing an internet link into a ‘single word link’ – (for say E-mailing it to friend or posting it on a forum) if that makes sense?
Simple, easy to understand answer please

When make a post click the icon just about the area you enter the text that looks like the earth with a chain (link) on it, its just below the smiley face, just follow the instructions ie enter the website address first then replace the highlighted text with the word you want to use0

So the address for the techie stuff page i.e.
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=29
could in fact look like this-
THIS?
Great! Thanks!
But how do people do this when they are not posting on a forum? I've had people send me E-mails with such abbreviated links

it's just html code.
on a forum it'll be click here[/url (with the end tag on.
Normal HTML uses <> instead of the [] so they'd have written the email in HTML.0 -

Er, thanks – I think! HTML? Wassat ? Heat treated meat loaf?
So could I write an E-mail that included a ‘HTML’ link or is it complicated?

If your email doesn't have formatting controls you'd have to manually enter the html:
http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_links.asp
But I usually enter the full link because you never know how other people have their email setup and whether they allow html emails. Some set it to text only for security0 -
If using Outlook Express (OE), create a new email. If your OE is set to send HTML emails, a row of formatting icons (bold, underline, etc.) should appear above the message area. If not, click the Format menu and select Rich Text (HTML).
To enter a hyperlink, type in and highlight the word(s) you want the link to appear as and click the Hyperlink icon. This brings up a dialogue box where you enter the URL of the hyperlink.0 -
Thanks for your help, but still no joy

I’m NOT using outlook express – I just log into my BT E-mail account and write my E-mails online.
I noticed that there is a symbol (Earth & Chain) that says ‘create hyperlink’ – I’ve tried sending myself an E-mail with an abbreviated link. Firstly when I enter a web address into the box that appears when I click the symbol there is no ‘area’ for me to enter my choice of word/s for the link. Secondly when I click on the OK button the box disappears and NOTHING is entered into my E-mail
Sorry, but I am very clueless when it comes to anything pc related……..
sra, I've looked at that page you suggested - but it's all double dutch to me!

Highlight (select with mouse) the word(s) you want as the link first and then click the symbol.Golden_Gusset wrote:I noticed that there is a symbol (Earth & Chain) that says ‘create hyperlink’ – I’ve tried sending myself an E-mail with an abbreviated link. Thanks Chippy – but that does not work either!

I did what you said what you said i.e. highlighted the words ‘This Link’ and then clicked the symbol. The box then appears and whatever I enter into the box (i.e. the words 'This Link' or the actual link or both) the box disappears when I click ok and NOTHING is inserted into my E-mail

You definitely just put the actual link into the box that comes up and it works fine for me! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
