I think I posted on your original thread on this, so thought I'd pop by again. Well done, hey, looks like you're doing well. You will be soooo pleased when all your monthly salary is your own.... Oh, I feel like I'm on count down on my DFD and it's a year away!

  • Happytogetdebtfree - that sounds pretty similar to how I got into debt; I used to spend spend spend and worry about it later. Now I know exactly how much money I have at any time, never spend more than I earn, take my job seriously and have a clear debt - free target, which makes work much more endurable, although it bores the hell out of me. In fact, I have become quite a sad - act in that I have a notepad by my bed and any time I spend a penny I subtract it from my wage (my mates dont know about this, they would take the !!!! totally). Not to mention the chart on the back of my bedroom door of my loan payments:o
2012 may seem like a long way off, but it will come round eventually keep at it!!! You say your debt is joint, I take it your other half is making as much effort as you are to repay it early???

Catzpaws - Thanks! Well yep I can't wait to have a full wage to myself, Ive been in debt for 7 years and wont know what to do with myself :D Good luck with your journey, I wish you well!!! Do you have a debt free diary yet???

I know where you're coming from as I've had some form of debt since being a student. And, it's built up over the years... mainly being just a bit too extravagent in - absolutely everything - but also not being organised about finances at all.

Yep, I do write in my diary, which I have found totally invaluable as it keeps me on the straight and narrow.

And, no, I don't tell everyone my MSE-stuff either!

  • I have just seen your thread and read the lot from start to finish. I just wanted to wish you good luck it sounds like you have made good process and kept up to motivation. It is great that you have managed to budget for a couple of nights out so you get to see your friends and stop you getting too bored.

What are you going to do with all the extra cash when you have made your final payment?

As for things to do at the weekend, you said you were waiting for a book to arrive in the post. What about reading? Again you can get these from the library. I don't imagine you would spend entire nights reading but you can add it into TV watching and playing computer games.

As you live if your sister and dad what about board games. Everyone usually has one lying about and could be a good laugh for you all to sit down together. Guess this is not something you can do every weekend but it might fill a couple of Saturday nights to get you to your goal.

I have just caught up with this thread....

    Paying off debt is brilliant...

But a few years ago.... actually 6 years ago... I really struggled to get out out debt.
I was alway in a pay credit card debt/ make credit card debt...

It lasted a while, and quickly (thankfully) realised that my debt problem was cigarettes...
As I could not afford to buy them....

    Anyway..... long story short...
I gave up smoking... thus ensuring debt free status was maintained, far far quicker than I had thought ;)

Also, I have had a fab holiday to Hong Kong this year.....far flung hols was never an option before :o

Hope all goes well for you
    :D

Been into the bank and overpaid again this afternoon and when my monthly repayment comes out on Wednesday, my balance will be......£959.58!!! and inside that final thousand!! Woooooo. Also, my Xbox 360 has sold on eBay, generating an extra £107.55 to throw into the loan next Friday!!! Wooweeewooowaaa!!!:D Plus whatever I manage to save from this weeks wage, which should be about £80.

Happytogetdebtfree - thats ace your partner having a job where he can get extra cash from jobs on the side, everything helps :T

What are you going to do with all the extra cash when you have made your final payment?<< I'm not sure, maybe get some new clothes, a lap top, a new phone...then once I've had my little spending spree, I will probably start saving for a mortgage (which could take a long time!) or to rent, but I'm not sure yet.

nopot2pin - Ive tried the stopping smoking thing countless times, and each time I failed, so I now smoke tobacco which I get on the cheap from my dodgy friends:o
so I still save on that. I cant wait to be debt free! Id love to be able to go on a far flung holiday as you described and maybe that will be a possibility in the not so distant future :D
