Clear my debts in 12 weeks!

Thanks mandragora, what you said there is very insightful and food for thought! I guess the habits I have formed here will stand me in good stead for the future. Also, thanks to nopot2pin, I appreciate all replies!!!

Well, today is Friday and that means the one day of the week that I get to overpay on my loan...so today I overpaid by £170.00, taking the outstanding balance down to....£649.80!!! I cant believe how small it is starting to look, when I think of how much I've paid off, its overwhelming.

Looking forward to a few drinks tomorrow night...I wish you all a very pleasant weekend, money:D

£535.36 - thats my new loan outstanding balance as of today! 16th December is looming ever closer....3 weeks and 5 days (not that im counting or anything). Then thats it, Hallelujah!!! Debt worries over for ever

What do you think has been the biggest change you had made to be able to pay everything off so quickly?

The biggest change, hmmmm.....probably all the small things that come together to make a big impact. Things like smoking tobacco instead of cigarrettes, taking a packed lunch to work instead of buying lunch, going out 1 night per week instead of 2, selling unwanted items on eBay...etc. they have all helped in bringing my debt free date closer than it would have been. Im really chuffed and so glad I have sorted things out. It has put me in a much better position. Im still young, only 25, and living with parents, so there is still a chance I could save a deposit for a mortgage if Im allowed to stay at home for another couple of years.
Also, keeping a notepad handy is key, I write down everything I spend, so I can clearly see what I have available at any time. Plus a chart with exact amounts I need to pay per week to hit my target has really helped me a lot and kept me focused.
Just need to get a better paying job then I can save some serious cash...oh yeah and a girlfriend would be nice too

Wooo hoo nearly there! Wish I was but not long now. Yes a few more years with ma and pa could save you a nice big chunk of house deposit cash catch up soon x

Check out the new outstanding balance! I'll be debt free in no time!! Bring on Christmas and the New Year. Gonna start 2010 with a clean slate!!! 7 years of being in debt is nearly over...I can see the finish line.:cool:

Wow nearly there i am so envious well done and well done for doing this and sticking it out and clearing debts that are like a ball and chin becareful with the spends and get saving then you can buy what you can afford, whats the big plans for the 2010 ? x

Hey sorry for the delay in replying. I haven't checked my diary for a while.

To be honest I don't know what I am going to do with the spare cash that will become available once ive repaid my debt. I was going to start saving up for a laptop, but my uncle gave me his old one for free last night!! I couldnt believe it, it's a Dell aswell and wont have been cheap. Im so lucky.

I stopped smoking on 29.11.09 and have been completely smoke free for 8 days now. So this will save me a packet in the long run. And this time I know I have cracked it because I was on a night out on Sat and didn't smoke then and if I can deal with that situation I can deal with any. I'm almost beginning to forget about smoking and starting to think of myself as a non smoker!! This is one of the best things ive ever done. Its a great feeling.

One week on Wednesday and my loan will be fully repaid! That means Christmas and New Year debt free and smoke free. I've upgraded my entire life. Then it's into 2010 with a bang!! There's a few things I may save up for, but just so pleased to have got back on my life back on track.

All that's missing now is a girlfriend

Well done! I've been following your thread for a couple of weeks and your progress is really inspirational, you should be really proud of yourself and a massive congrats on the non-smoking. You've done brilliantly.
