Post Office Broadband unfair bill. Help.

Options
We went live with Post Office Broadband & Home phone on the 4th August.

During August they Billed us £24.95 - the price of the Home Phone & Broadband Pack. The Bill was dated from 22nd July to 4th August- before we went live.

Naturally we thought this was the bill for the month paid in advance.. yeah?.

This week however they have sent a new bill of £34.77 but its dated 4th August to 4th September. It includes the Broadband Pack price and extra phone calls made.

This cant be right can it ? they have billed us £24.95 for a time when we had no service, and it looks as if it wasn't a payment in advance either.

  • I'm not sure about the legality of whether they can charge you for a time when you have no service with them (common sense would say no!), but beware:

I ordered the PO's broadband service earlier this year, but cancelled it before the order went through - in the "cooling off" period. Even though they've acknowledged this, they added the price to my bill, and then said that once the bill is generated, they can't cancel it. While that doesn't mean you'll necessarily have to pay it, getting amounts amended can be a real pain...

They passed my unpaid bill (even though every time I phone their advisors tell me I don't have to pay the full amount, less the broadband charges) to a debt collection agency. When i complained to the PO, they told me this referral had been cancelled. But I'm still getting threatening letters from the debt collectors...

*Sigh*. I hope you get it sorted - the PO isn't the easiest system to deal with, IMO. Just keep lots of notes - and get in touch with the asap to have it noted on your account that they're charging you for a period when they weren't even your provider (...right?). Good luck.
