  • yeah it was entitledto.com i checked. We are getting child & working tax credits, thats it. oh and child benefit.
  • Your contents insurance is very high. I pay less than that for buildings and contents. Check out the comparison sites and see if any are offering cashback via Quidco.

As already said, a landline/broadband package would be far, far less than £100 pm. Add 2 cheapo mobiles on PAYG at £10 pm and you would have change from £50 p.m.

Your petrol is incredibly high. Is public transport a possibility, at least in part? Or car share?

Also oldstyle money saving board might be useful for ideas on reducing shopping bills by meal planning etc (its a very friendly board)

  • Our petrol is high cuz my partner has to travel quite a distance to and fro work everyday. He is looking for a job closer to home. We thought we were doing the right thing when we recently moved house to save on rent. But that saving meant we moved further away from his job, hence the ridiculous amount of petrol. So in fact we are probably worse off because of it.

Our contents insurance is up for renewal so i'm in the middle of shopping round.

The thing about our mobiles is that we are tied into a contract other wise i definitely wouldnt have them at these tariffs. If there was a way to get out of the contract I most certainly would. Any ideas??
  • Hi fairy girl

Have you tried www.saynoto0870.com will give you a land line number to ring instead of a costly 0845 number.
  • Thank you kaisersoze, I had never heard of it but I have just checked it and all the 0845 numbers I ring have alternative numbers to ring. I was so fed up paying these prices that i even asked o2 if they had any bolt ons that i could use for these numbers. my last bill was 95quid because of these numbers, but that was because we moved house and i had to do all the formalities, but it will never be that price again thanks to that website and this forum.

    FG,

How far are you into the contracts for both mobiles?
  • I still have about 9 months of an 18 month and my partners is the same.

So you are 9 months into contract, with everyone I believe with the exception of T Mobile you can reduce your packages from 9 months onwards, simply call them and ask them to reduce your package to the next one down, it could save you a fiver on each contract, and then next month (on the 14 October) phone again and reduce your contract down to the next level again, but a word of warning, be careful about your minutes and allowances.
  • I wouldn't normally suggest them, but most BT landline package options have free 0845 and 0870 calls so worth factoring that in when you think about what landline/broadband package to get.
