Your opinion: Buying a house next door to a Pub

What if the landlord retires next year, and the new landlord goes for a significant change of style?
Karaoke nights?
Club nights?
Televised Sport?
Extended opening hours?0 -
With the rate at which UK pubs are closing down you may not have a problem at all. Ever.
To be honest, I'd be concerned about a change in clientele. It might be nice now but is there any chance of a new landlord changing it to a biker, chav or heavy metal hangout? I think the answer is that you really don't know and a relatively nice area might not always remain so.0 -
Probably 2nd or 3rd most common reason for seeking Council Tax reduction on environmental grounds - "my house is next door to a pub"
I wouldn't, espec at £275K. I'd bet mortgage provider's surveyor would downvalue it.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
I'd agree. A little bit too risky!!0

I wouldn't buy a house next to a pub. Especially one that had a garden. I'd be concerned that I wouldn't be able to enjoy sitting out in my garden because of all the clouds of cigarette smoke.0

I had a house we sold in that price bracket. It was in a village; we were next door but one and despite being the hub of the village there was never any noise that was in the least bit annoying. A little bit of chit chat outside on a summers evening but it gave it quite a nice atmosphere.
We had our wedding recepption in a marquee in the garden. It really does depend on the area and the pub. It wasn't an issue for people viewing either - we didn't have any comments about the pub being too close.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

What type of area? In a village or a larger town? How much scope is there for the clientele to change if management changed?
Where do people park when they visit the pub? Would you have off-road parking?
It's a university town. The pub has been there for more than 150 years and it's now a popular backstreet pub for locals, professionals and students. Residents park on the street, which is another downside.0 -
Cambridge? Must be if it's £275,000 for a terrace.
We lived opposite a Cambridge pub and never had any trouble, but I still wouldn't buy one now. Must just be getting old and intolerant. I'd be more worried about having students for neighbours.Been away for a while.0 -
My OH lived in a flat above a pub, the pub itself was not noisy but the smokers outside and after closing time were very loud, you couldn't keep the windows open. He now rents the flat out and has had no problems with tenants complaining.0
-
I wouldn't.
Smokers will be outside talking loudly while they are having a fag in all weathers. The pub might decide to put loud bands or karaoke on. Taxis might be tooting their horns outside at chucking out time.0
