Is it illegal to watch movies online?

I would argue their work is probably not popular enough to appear on youtube / filesharing sites, but I won't because in principal I am against piracy
I disagree, you think everyone who worked on a Bruce Willis film gets paid the same as him? Even for something extremely high profile and popular has much more than just the "visible artists" behind it. And in the case of films, usually only a few have to profitably carry the weight of losses made by other films. But to be honest for me (I presume like you) it is as much about the principle of the theft pure and simple. If I create something nobody has the right to make a copy of it without my permission. If it came to prosecution the hefty thing is punitive damages, not compensatory ones so the arguments of other posters about "proving loss" are irrelevant in that case."She is quite the oddball. I agree, but I think its also about providing something for all at a reasonable price... I'm in favour of legitimate pay per view movie sites like the one Apple are setting up, which basically uses to technology to cut out the greedy middle men.0

No I don't work for free & neither do any of the Hollywood stars.
If you'd like to explain how me watching a downloaded movie affects Bruce Willis' million(s) dollar fee then I'm all ears.
For starters, it takes more than one person to make a movie.
Secondly, because you steal them, I have to pay more for them.0 -

I don't think it's going to convince them, they're using the same logic that a shoplifter uses stealing from "big" companies or people who defraud insurance companies. It's kind of a hindsight justification for their behaviour not a reason. Some people will always steal which despite an earlier comment is not in the spirit of money saving and is the antithesis of this site."She is quite the oddball. How is is piracy for me to watch something online? Would they really try to prosecute all viewers? I wanted to watch Torchwood but the BBC didn't have every episode on their site so I watched it elsewhere.
If they care so much why not sloe the sites down and get tougher? Like I said- I don't know what a torrent is so doubt i'm breaking any law.
Like I posted there's a difference between illegal and prosecutable. There are lots of things the CPS wouldn't waste their time with. Doesn't make them any more legal. And I very much doubt it's in the economical interest of the BBC (and therefore the licence payers) to pursue every single illegal website. Not even Microsoft are able to do that for places selling pirated Office copies."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I beleive downloading a movie from online is illegal. I don't think so that just by watching online movies you are doing anything wrong over here. I myself watch online movies from many of the sites just to save my theatre money at this recession.0

Same logic as justifying sneaking into a theatre without paying."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

and the theatre doesn't earn the money so fires some of its local minimum wage staff to cover it, Maybe worse close up business and so thats another cinema not purchasing rights to show the movie.......in the end Marty will not beable to afford his Alladin 6 Jafas new glasses DVD which then more people lose their jobs usually at the bottom first to cover their lossesof less DVD sales
It was in the news today that the comercial TV companies will be allowed to do product placement in their tv shows, not just the sponsorship. So you be able to have your Jeramey Kyle guest come on with a can of Dimond white and a Double DeckerSurvey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740 -
Playing devils advocate for a moment...
The 'stealing' of things in a digital form is quite different to stealing anything physical though as nobody actually loses anything, they just don't gain something. Now, if the person doing the 'stealing' would never have bought it in the first place, say for example they couldn't afford it, why is this 'stealing'?0
