Have seen my daughter watching a movie online on youtube or other websites. Some of the movies she watched are showing on cinemas at present and you can tell some movies are taken using a camcorder in the cinema etc.
Is it illegal just to watch it?

If they are full length movies taken with camcorder in the cinema then she's obviously downloaded them using some peer to peer filesharing software (and yes, that is illegal to do). You won't find stuff like that on Youtube.0

True the movies on youtube are not shot using camcorders but on some websites they are. She does not use peer to peer and does not download it to the harddrive. All so does is type 'x movies' in google and she watches them. She does not save them or burn onto DVD.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems

Nothing to loose any sleep over really. Unless you're constantly downloading and uploading movies via torrents or P2P.0

As far as I was aware, watching something streaming on your PC is not illegal - downloading (or uploading) is.

I'm not sure if this is all legal or not but being a tad old fashioned I don't think I'd want either of my daughters watching these.0 -

I'm pretty sure streaming a movie is just as illegal as downloading it (as they are, more or less, the same thing).0 -
Streaming Pirated movies is illegal as you are technically downloading. You are also supporting the criminal act of piracy and helping to support it0
-
If what is being streamed was illegally obtained in the first place though. As far as piracy is concerned there is no difference between streaming and download - at some point an illegally obtained film (or part of) resides on your computer.
I agree with part of what you are saying, I had assumed that the law had not caught up with the technology.
I've been searching for the site (I had thought it was the BBC) from which I read the original information and of course I can't find it  so I suppose until I come across it again probably best to assume what you say stands
