Credit check by new provider?

Options
I have had the whole package with Virgin Media since the NTL days and really don't want to leave them but I have fallen into 2 mths arrears with my bill and they have cut all my services and want at least £120 to put it back on which I have no chance of paying until end of Nov.

I need the internet for work purposes and my daughter's studies and want to go with a new provider but my credit rating is really bad atm. Does anyone know if BT (i would haveto get a bt line installed to use any other provider) or Sky do a credit check when you apply for phone/broadband (i am not so worried about tv as can use digibox).?

  • I have just joined up with PlusNet 2 weeks and go and i did not have a credit check done on me.

I know you asked about Sky or BT but just thought PlusNet may be an option if BT or Sky do a credit check and you have no luck with them.

Thanks for that GG. I was already interested in the PlusNet deal but I still have to get a telephone line installed by BT first to enable me to use PlusNet don't I? I am sure I can't use my Virgin Media telephone line with any other provider but if anyone else knows different pleaase let me know.

I do have a BT phone line as not long moved into my flat. I pay my line rental to BT and then i pay PlusNet for my internet.

The service has been live for just under a week and so far its been fantastic.

The sales team are in the UK and aftersales international but the 24 hour technical support is great.

I believe that if it is a BT line but you pay Virgin for the line rental you can still just have the internet with PlusNet and have the phone line and internet with the two different companys. Give the sales team a call they will be able to answer there and then.

    Hope that helps.

Virgin Media is a cable service. if you are on that it can only be used with Virgin.
If you are on Virgin National then that is an BT ADSL line and can be used with any ADSL provider.
