Ryanair - "pushchair" question

We are taking our 8 month old child on a Ryanair flight and are a little confused about what we can and can't take as a "pushchair". Unusually, Ryanair haven't really specified definitions or dimensions of what we can actually take.
We don't own a pushchair that folds concertina style (or into an umbrella shape) and to save on what little money we have, we were looking to take our Quinny Buzz pram frame (which collapses flat but is still quite wide) with a car seat fitted to it.
If this isn't acceptable then would Ryanair accept the frame and a checked in car-seat or could they reject the frame as not "fully collapsible"? I don't want to have to pay excess baggage charges but, alternatively, I'd rather not spend too much on infant equipment we are unlikely to use again.
Any help is appreciated.
Bernie.

Hi, I can't see the frame of the quinny being too large as when folded it's comparible to an umbrella buggy anyway. I take it that your baby will be sitting in the carseat on the aircraft itself? if you want prior confirmation i'd email ryanair, or failing that, ask this question on the babycentre forums - you're bound to find someone on there who's taken the buzz on a flight :-)0

hi babies are not allowed to sit in car seat on flights.check your pram and car seat in as 1(no expense)choice can be leave baby in car seat n hand over pram or take whole lot to the gate.mine didn,t fold into compact either and i have travelled with my son since he was 6wks old(now 2 n a half).hope this helps and enjoy your trip x0

Hi is this a new ruling then? I took my daughter on 3 flights, each time in her car seat, albeit a couple of years ago now...0 -
Might work out cheaper if pushchair went into the hold with the child still in it.
Just a thought0 -
any flight that i have taken my son on under the age of 2(pay for seat after age of 2)he has had to sit on lap of fare paying adult with a seatbelt extension.have been able to take car seat to bottom of steps but that has been it.in my experience it wasn,t just ryanair.0

I've got a Ryanair & pushchair question as well... We've got a fully collapsable (umbrella-style) pushchair. It seems like we will need to get it tagged but will I be able to bring it up to the plane/gate or not? I see conflicting info on the website (first a no, then a yes):
See Ryanair's website "Traveling with 0 Bags/Online Check-In"
"... passengers with child's pushchair should go to the Bag Drop desk to get the item tagged and sent to the aircraft before going through security."

VS.
See Ryanair's website "What is Ryanair's Policy on the Carriage of Infants?"
"... Pushchairs are carried free and can be used up to the entrance of the plane (provided the local conditions permit this). After landing your pushchair will be available at the aircraft steps."

So I'm left confused if I can really take the pushchair to the gate, or must leave it with the Bag Drop desk when tagged. Can anyone help?0 -
As far as I know, if you're travelling with an infant, then you're entitled to take a pushchair to the gate free of charge. If you're travelling with a child, then the pushchair is treated as luggage and charged/tagged/dropped accordingly. From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -
PBS - Thanks for the advice. Its quite possible you are right regarding gate vs. bag drop = infant v. child. However, I did read elsewhere that someone called the non-premium Ryanair customer line to ask if pushchairs were free for only infants or children too (since they Ryanair T&C language switches from infant to child when talking about free pushchairs). They were told Ryanair will carry pushchairs (fully collapseable) free of charge for any child under 5 regardless if they are an infant or not. I know that differs from the experience of a few on MSE forums, but this is the result of a recent call and I have a bit of hope that it's actually correct info. Any thoughts (since I've never actually flown with them yet)?0

one fully collapsible pushchair per child may be carried free of charge.
A pushchair is mobility equipment. There is no upper age limit.
Report to the bag drop desk for it to be tagged, then proceed through the airport with it all the way to the gate where it will be taken by ground staff and put on the plane.0
