  • Weird the info I recieved (im a manager of a high street store) from Barcylcard merchant services seams to be wrong, though we are yet to have chip and pin in our store yet so it doesnt bother me atm

as to authorising transactions, all transactions in our store are authorised (we have ISDN link) and if that fails we have to ring through the voice authorisation service (which is a total joke as it takes 2 mins....(where as the AMEX one takes 30 seconds!))

all the stores i visit seam to authorise my transactions (on switch anyway) apart from co op under a tenner and onboard the trains since their machines aint got the capacity to check
  • I used my chip and pin (Egg) card in several stores in the Metro Centre (Gateshead) yesterday. In all of them I was asked for a signature.

When I queried this I was told that not all chip and pin cards had been activated, and if the machine did not get authorisation for a pin they printed a receipt which had to be signed.

Has anyone else come across this?

you have a chip and signature card. when your card is due to be replaced it will become a chip and pin card.
  • That explains it - thanks for that.
