    Hiya

The saga of my house purchase continues. I was due to exchange contracts on Friday and had asked to view the property last Saturday and yesterday, but she refused. The estate agent informed her that I had to view the property yesterday as this week I have an operation which will mean I'm unable to drive there and view it for four weeks. Even after all this she still wouldn't let me view this Saturday (yesterday) saying she wanted to read some letters from her solicitor first.

I'm so upset, I don't know why she has being so unreasonable. Since my offer was accepted, at the end of January, I have only viewed the property 3 times.

So I was strong and informed my solicitor that I didn't want to exchange on Friday, I won't exchange until I have seen the property again.

I'm so tired will all of this, I feel like pulling out completely :(

You dont say how many times you visited BEFORE you made an offer.

I think its UNREASONABLE to keep wanting to visit after you make an offer.

You look at a property, you decide if its for you and you make an offer.

Maybe one or two visits to measure up for one thing or another, but no more.

You exchange contracts and agree to buy what you saw, and what the vendor agreed would be part of the sale, your solicitor will have a copy of this which you should have signed in agreement. Simple matter is, if the house or fittings differs significantly when you get it you sue them end of .... no amount of visits will ensure what is or isnt removed the day before you move in anyway.

When selling MILs house last year we let them in to view when we were over there clearing it. I didn't mind but I think my DH found it quite upsetting when they said things like 'we'll get rid of that old thing' and 'that walls coming down, how can anyone have designed the kitchen like that!' (the kitchen BTW was solikd oak and only six years old) They were just a bit insensitive.

They had the builder round and measured for curtains so they could get straight on.

Then they wanted to delived stuff in readyness but at that stage we said no.After all it would not be insured. This was the excuse we used about them going in when we were not there via the EA key.

In the end it fell through because their buyer pulled out on the morning of the exchange. If they had bought/ prepared stuff it was all wasted.

Well, I'm back from the operation - typing one handed! I thought I hould resond to some of the replies:

Raymond: "You dont say how many times you visited BEFORE you made an offer...I think its UNREASONABLE to keep wanting to visit after you make an offer."
Gosh, you sound quite angry! I should have made myself clear about my visits:

1st - on the same day as visiting six other propeties with the same EA (after previous house fell through, due to vendor and EA lying about mundic block  )

2nd - with a friend as EA didn't want to show us around, owner did and I thought (being female) it would be sensible to go with somene

Made offer, accepted - Jan. Delay due to vendor wanting to find a property to buy first. I said I didn't mind waiting, (hence the delay livinginhope "Try to calm down and don't be so suspicious as to what she may be up to,chances are she is getting fed up with waiting to move,I would be after 5 months") aren't I lovely and flexible  .

3rd - March, with mum as she was worried about what I was buying. As a FTB I hadn't even thought of measuring up!

April - end of - vendor has house, sale to go through. Letter to say some fixtures will be changed so I thought it would be useful to visit, measure for curtains and to see if my fridge freezer would fit. Informed EA (who inormed vendor) end of April I had operation on 11th May so needed to visit before then. Operation on arm which would make it hard for me to drive to property (in rural location) and measure up!! Refused.

Phonecall yesterday (day after op) from EA, vendor says I can visit and measure up this weekend! :rotfl: :rotfl: With my arm in a sling.....maybe not!!

Thanks for support those who agreed with me, but also interesting to read other views. BTW my solicitor said he always worries when vendors refuse viewings!

    Hi MushyPeas,

From what you have said it doesn't sound like the vendor is refusing you a viewing - sounds like they are only not agreeing on the date! I don't think that's unreasonable at all. Many families have commitments, especially at the weekend and may not want a virtual stranger in their what is after all still their home. Let them enjoy their remaining time in their home.

I must say that I've sometimes not viewed at all before completing - I've bought newbuild homes off plan and the latest (we complete this Friday  ) has only been viewed once by the OH - I've only seen the floorplans and web photos!

    Good Luck with the move!

    Four visits
my last purchase (last year ) the vendor didnt want me to have a second viewing before I made an offer .I said no viewing no offer .
I got my viewing and made my offer .The offer was accepted in january .One week later I told the vendor I couldnt complete until 1st week in May .
she wasnt happy said she would put the house back on the market ,i said go ahead there is another house 3 doors away for sale .(I seen it on the internet ) she complained to EA about me .EA phoned me and said vendor is paranoid .I got the property in May . I always view twice before making an offer ,and if a survey shows a problem then another viewing will be necessary.
