Baggage allowance with Easyjet

I'd be grateful for advice on Easyjet's rules. We are off to Italy for two weeks with Cosmos from our local airport and find ourselves on Easyjet for the first time. I'm told the local staff are fussy about allowances. As I read their rules ("Section 10 Baggage") we are entitled to 20kgs checked-in hold baggage and hand baggage "to a volume limit of 55x40x20cm" provided you can lift it into an overhead locker without assistance.
This seems a more generous walk-on allowance than I was expecting. The measurements represent quite a big bag!
Can someone tell me whether I have understood the situation correctly, please?
Also, any advice on getting the best out of an Easyjet flight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your understanding of baggage allowances is spot on but there is no "best" to get out of Easyjet other than try to check in fairly early so that you're in the first boarding group. It helps to avoid the riot for seating that they quaintly call boarding. What goes around - comes around0

I've flew with Easyjet loads of times. They changed the rule about hand baggage a year or so ago. I think it's quite good. I usually take a large rucksack with wheels, and foldable handle. It's quite big, but they still let me on with it as handluggage. I prefer to just take hand luggage as I hate checking in stuff, and it saves time at the end as you already have your luggage. So you can probably take about 3 pieces of hand baggage or 1 big one with a handbag. Small ones can fit under your seat, bigger ones up in the lockers above
I would avoid sitting in the rows with the orange headrests next to the emergency exit, as the air hostesses make such a fuss about it and it drives me mad. But the seats arent allocated but you can sit where you like. I prefer the front - middle seats because you usually get served first if you want some refreshments and you get a free magazine which is interesting reading. It has good articles and also there are destination guides. Enjoy your flight!0 -
Many thanks to you both.0

This is another valid use of the hand luggage allowance, so long as you're comfortable with the fact that you have zero consideration for your fellow passengers. But, hey, so long as you're not inconvenienced, what's the big deal? What goes around - comes around0 -
Don't have very high expectations!wadewade wrote:Also, any advice on getting the best out of an Easyjet flight would be appreciated.
The hand luggage allowance is generous, but they are very strict on the 20kg hold baggage rule, especially from Luton. Anything over that & you pay £5 per kilo.
The earlier you check in, the earlier you will board the flight. Luton is quite well organised for departure; often you will be sectioned off according to your boarding priority. The return home from Italy will more than likely be a free for all, so be prepared!0 -
Thank you, Lucie, We're going from Bristol so let's hope they are organised as well.0

re zappahey: thanks to those passengers like bella b who try and take hand luggage only..those of us with hold luggage get them quicker when waiting for them in baggage reclaim
and even better is hand luggage only customers who print out boarding cards have greatly reduced queues at check in
i travel a lot and getting locker space for hand luggage is never a problem for me..and i get on last!!
think before you post zappahey0 -

You utterly miss the point.
She was talking about taking a large rucksack or three pieces of hand luggage on board to avoid the minor inconvenience of picking up a bag at the carousel. These are the inconsiderate idiots who clatter you with their bags as they struggle up the aisle, cause chaos, and hold up boarding, as they struggle to fit them into the lockers and then hog a disproportionate amount of storage space. Only to repeat the chaos at disembarkation. I don't think any of that is reasonable, you may have a different tolerance threshold. What goes around - comes around0 -

just be careful...if you print your own boarding card you automatically "default" to boarding group "D".....last in the queue in otherwords.....so fair enough you don't queue to check in.....but when it comes to boarding.....you're the last to get on the plane....my advice is, get therre early....start the holiday immediately browsing the shops and chilling before the flight leaves.....less stressful in the end.....have a good trip.....
oh yes....details of "print your own boarding card is on the easyjet website....and a word of caution....make sure your printer is working and is topped up with ink....you only get two attempts to print your boarding cardI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -
you missed the point zappahey that hand luggage customers only are what easyjet/ryanair want..and the benefits to other passengers are as i stated
the problems of clattering up the aisle and disproportianate space taken is a minimal problem...and is far outweighed by the benefits at check in and baggage reclaim
there really is no problem with space in lockers the flights are hardly ever full, and there is always under the space seat...no probs with ryanair either..and they give financial gains to go hand luggage only
caller it zero consideration to other passengers is silly, to me hand luggage travellers with 3 bags or 1 large rucksack cause themselves problems with humping the luggage about for not much gain in saving time at the other end....maybe you should have tolerance of someone following the airlines wishes and benefiting other passengers.. the problems are in your mind!0
