For those that bought a HTC Hero contract through Dialaphone
Hey all, just a quick question. As you may or may not know, a firmware upgrade is on the horizon for our handsets. I have heard that HTC will make their updates available to unbranded/unlocked handsets, and those who have locked handsets must wait for their carriers to release their own version.
I took the orange tariff, and my graphite hero bears the orange logo on the back. While I realise I cannot goto orange directly with any problems on my handset, as it was dialaphone that gave it to me, does that mean I will be able to update the firmware through HTC, or must I still wait for orange as I am sure my handset is locked to orange?

Try to imagine nothing ever existed...

If it has Orange branding on the phone it is likely that it is an Orange phone and you will have to wait. My last contract was from dial-a-phone but it was vodafone that provided my handset, and it was locked to vodafone firmware.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
I had a similar thing with my HTC Diamond on orange. To access the upgrade you need to put in your IMEI on the HTC website. I typed mine in and it said I couldn't access it (as I needed the Orange firmware).
However, I managed to get another IMEI off the XDA-developers forum, typed that in and upgrade.0
