The above machines are great value, The HP particularly, it is a discontinued item according to HP website which might explain the low price, interestingly, it has SATA hard drive, socket 939 motherboard for upgrade to Athlon 64 processor, and best of all has a PCI-E x16 slot as well for a high quality graphics card which the other machines dont have, its a steal. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=uk&lang=en&dlc=en&product=1148465&docname=c00541816

    (512) than the others.

I am on the lookout for a base unit so the HP interests me - but looking at the Dabs website there is a Pentium 4 one (refurbished) for £50 more.

What worries me about this is the 'Value' tag on it though - in that I know HP is a decent brand and the reviews say it is a quiet machine which is important to me having had a 'cheapo' unit before which sounded like a hairdrier. The DabsValue machine doesn't have the PCIe either.

Any thoughts? Or should I just wait for another Dell misprice?

Hate to say it, but here goes! The emachine is the worst computer I ever had!and the hard drive died after 10 months. Luckily had hard drive replaced under guarantee ( took 3 weeks though), then flogged it dirt cheap to my sister ( no it wasnt wicked lol, its fine for the little she uses it for) and bought a dell, which I cant fault!

Last Dell missprice I went for they didn't honour...and the person who I contacted was downright abusive to me when I queried why they had cancelled my order but let others go through which were placed an hour after mine :(

anyway, the Dabs system looks alright, but it doesn't have a dvd writer which the HP does. personally, I'd prolly go for the HP as it can be upgraded (as the dabs one) at a later date when processors are cheaper :)

That seems a good price, though not sure about Packard Bell. The Fujitsu one I mentioned would be £328 with the TFT, delivery and VAT. That is only for 256 MB RAM and 40 GB HD though. But I would always put a price on the 3 year on-site of about £80-100. I guess it depends how much you know about PCs. I like the idea of long on-site warranties. You only need one break down and then you have to box the thing up (kept the box?) and pay to courier it back.

I have a Dell 5150 P4 3.0 It cost me around £292 (base unit) in one of the special offers last september. Has served me fine, It has a PCI-E graphics card, 512 DDR2 memory but didnt have the DVDRW when I got it. If the HP had been around at that time at that price It would have been a very close call. The difference in processor type is not noticeable certainly for gaming and general usage and while I have no bad things to say about Pentium processors Ive read numerous reports/reviews that the new Semprons perform better for gaming and is probably the best bang for buck processor out there. - check processor review on ebuyer if you are not sure. Cant see the Dabs HP deal lasting for long.

    I wish :)

Just posting what I think is good deals....having built systems since the late 90's I can't believe what you can get these days (with a legal operating system) ready built, anyone building systems these days would be hard pushed to sell at these prices...especially with a legal OS
