Uninstall McAfee

My free trial period expired yesterday and my spamkiller is disabled. When I tried to open Microsoft Outlook I got an error report and it would not open.
I suspect this is linked to the expiry of McAfee but cannot see how to uninstall it (used to have Avast! and Zone Alarm on my old PC which I would install in place of McAfee).
In the Add/Remove there is only McAfee Uninstaller but I can't find the uninstaller elsewhere and want to ensure all is removed.
Any ideas anyone please?

that will remove the whole lot for you, you need to shut down all the running Macafee processes or if you have real problems remove it in safe mode, shown here

Have found that by uninstalling the mcafee uninstaller it brings up the uninstall option.
Am now downloading Avast. Will it conflict with Windows Security Centre as that has the firewall on?There is always light within the dark0 -

You should be able to search for information telling what the Outlook error message actually means.
If the McAfee Uninstaller does not completely remove it, you should find something to download at the McAfee website to do this.
Download everything that you will need (remove toll, Avast, ZA) before removing anything i.e. do not connect to the net after you have removed your present security package until you have installed security. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I found this problem a couple of times when I have uninstalled McAffe Trial from my Dell computers. I have a full version on disk and I found that I had to reinstall McAffe then uninstall it again. But this problem is very frequent. Although I doubt you have a disk if you are uninstalling the trial, so its no help to you. But you cant do system restore as the McAffe uninstaller shreds files instead of just deleting them and System Restore cant find them.0

Thank you for all your help.
Installed Avast and let it scan my hard drive which took 1/2 hour!
It is up and running and, I can now access Microsoft Outlook.
Have not yet installed Zone Alarm. Will it conflict with Microsoft's Security Centre Firewall? Which is the better of the two or can they run side by side? There is always light within the dark0 -
You should turn off Windows Firewall when you install Zone Alarm0

Like evryone else, I found McAfee difficult to remove, mainly because it auto loads at startup. So you have to set it to not do that then re-boot and it will (eventually) be removed. I think this company is a disgrace and so are Dell for pre-loading it on new computers when you don't want it. Especially when you don't go throught the preamble and agree to the installation.
There - got it off my chest too !!!
How about this for a thought? - McAfee is harder to get rid of than herpes - can we make it our motto?0 -
The fact that good anti-virus programs like Norton, McAfee etc. are harder to remove, is a good thing as it makes the system more secure, which is why they are installed in the first place! These companies provide removal tools, so what's your problem? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

of course a cynic would say that only certain types of these software are difficult to remove - as stated best routine for norton is uninstall.0
