Don't watch the show as it's being broadcast (e.g. watch it later on BBC iPlayer), and then you won't need a licence.

Well i use sky plus and watch everything at night.. so i must qualify for no licence

I think you'll find your Sky+ box receives the signal as it's being broadcast.

but sky plus sends you the signal to your TV even if its later so it was recorded from the live tv earlier and sent to you

No as has been stated, you must pay the licence, because you fall into the category of recording live tv. When you watch it on iPlayer, for example, you haven't recorded it has its been shown. Unless you are watching it live, of course.

    "Catch-up
You do not need a television licence to catch-up on television programmes in BBC iPlayer, only when you watch or record at the same time (or virtually the same time) as it is being broadcast or otherwise distributed to the public. In BBC iPlayer, this is through the Watch Live simulcast option."
  • thanks, my point was if my tv cannot receive the 'new' digital signal..?

As stated repeatedly above, no, you will not need a TV licence.
  • OP you still need a licence even if it is recorded tv as you "could see live tv on the tv you have by connecting it to a digital box

do you have a link for that quotation? I'd be very interested to see where it came from

brightonman, as Marty & others have stated, in the circumstances you describe you would definitely not need a licence

    Does this link work:

    http://!!!!!!/2nrIKQ

basically it's form the TVLicence site saying:
Will I still need a TV Licence after the digital switchover?

Yes. The TV Licensing requirements for digital television are the same as for analogue. If you are using television receiving equipment to watch or record TV programmes as they are being shown on television, you will still need a TV Licence.
    case closed? ^_^

Think the general "rule of thumb" is that if you're device is "capable of receiving transmissions over the air via an ariel" then you require a licence... (since "FreeView" digital TV is still received via your Ariel then you still require a licence.)
