tv licence after total switchover..

can someone settle an argument.. if someone has an old (analogue ) tv set, with no freeview etc, after the digital switchover, i take it there will be no signal broadcast which could be received, and so make you exempt from the tv licence?

You need a TV licence to watch live TV, not to own a television.

So you're asking the wrong question. ;)

you need a TV licence to watch the analogue signal and also the digital signal or sky or vigin media. So when analogue TV stops you will need a TV licence still to beable to watch live programmes on your tv

Does that mean you could still have a TV but just for watching DVD's/Videos? Or what about if you download from internet and burn onto DVD??
  • can someone help me to under stand this? this article is taken from the tv licence web site :
Do I need a TV Licence?

spacer.gifspacer.gifgrey.gifspacer.gifspacer.gif You must be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV. It makes no difference what equipment you use - whether it’s a laptop, PC, mobile phone, digital box, DVD recorder or a TV set - you still need a licence.

You do not need a TV Licence to view video clips on the internet, as long as what you are viewing is not being shown on TV at the same time as you are viewing it.

If you use a digital box with a hi-fi system, or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence.)))............................................................................................................................. spacer.gifspacer.gifgrey2.gif
So does anybody know how i can get the internet and watch clips on it. without using a tv/laptop/pc/mobile phone/dvd player. that way i dont need a licence. Please note this article was taken from the bbc/tv licence website.

You don't need a TV Licence if you just use your TV for watching DVDs.

yes, although downloading & burning to DVD might be a breach of copyright. Just watching it (from a legit site like iPlayer/4oD) does not require a TV license

Don't watch the show as it's being broadcast (e.g. watch it later on BBC iPlayer), and then you won't need a licence.
