Well done Max, am so chuffed for you, been following your blog with interest. As Dh has found himself in the same situation. However for now he is painting and decorating a bit different to the IT consultant but for now he is enjoying it and it keeps the wolf from the door. Its really tough out there.
I hope your new job is everything you want it to be.

Firstly, you misunderstand me. Secondly, you are so wrong I'm laughing.

I am saying the OP could seek temporary work - a day, week whatever at a time, no need to tell an employer with a permanent vacancy that he only can do three weeks.

And, yes, the 'JC' as an organisation will enforce exactly that. I can't comment on what individual members of that organisation will or will not do.

So now you want the person to lie to a prospective employer. Terrific advice. Try to use common sense dookar in this specific situation. I'm one of the first on this site to jump on undeserving people, anybody in this situation is not undeserving.

Point one. Suggests a rather patronising and bitter attitude. Any particular reason? Yes, if you want to be treated like an adult try behaving like one.

Point two. "Live off taxpayers"? Mate, I am a tax payer, have been for twenty five years and am about to be again! But one of the many things we pay taxes for is to assist those out of work. Which, temporarily, I am. Hence I'm perfectly entitled, legally and morally, to claim. No. you were a taxpayer. Currently you're not. You are not "legally and morally" entitled to JSA if you refuse to abide by your signed JSA agreement to actively seek and be available for work.

Point three. You are suggesting that the moment one is offered work, even if it's in a few weeks time, all benefits should cease.I haven't suggested anything of the sort. I pointed out your legal requirements whilst claiming. Or the claimant should somehow instantaneously magic up another job that somehow has absolutely no intro time (interviews, decision making, start date, just wham, you're working) and which the employer is happy for you to then almost immediately pack it in A lot of employers are more than happy to take on casual, short term employees. Try contacting the local employment agencies in you area, sure they'll be happy to help.. Failing that, according to your logic, the only alternative would be to turn down a job with a three week intro period and carry on job seeking and therefore legitimately claiming.No. that's your logic. I haven't implicitly or explicitly stated anything of the sort Idiot logic frankly.I couldn't agree more. I'm sure you'll be an asset to your future employer :D

I'd be quite interested what your future job role is.

Well it is nonsense if you have a guaranteed job starting in two weeks time for example. If you carry on applying for new jobs you are wasting the time of those employers.

there are no "guaranteed job offers" during a recession. It makes sense to not count your chickens before they've hatched and keep looking for work until you actually start with an employer.

    Dear oh dear. :rotfl:

The rest I'll let others draw their own conclusions on. :D

    What? Who mentioned lying?

You can seek temporary work no need to tell an employer with a permanent position etc. The complaint was the latter, the former negates it.

Sorry, been away for a long weekend with The Blonde, not jobseeking, ooh slapped wrists!

Dookar, I'd be very interested to know what you do for a living, I'm guessing public sector rather than real world?

    Wrong :)
The chances of just casually picking up another job within a couple of days, starting immediately, and then stopping again a few days later might be great in theory, but ludicrous in practice. :D

That may be so but, and I've said this before, the question is not whether the job is available for you but whether you are available for, and seeking, it.

I think you'll find joining the forces is guaranteed unless you die first.

Again, claimants must be available for work, not the other way around.

To continue to receive JSA he must continue to seek work.

The JC staff have no right to exercise 'common sense' they are duty bound to act within the current legislation.

Dookar, do you work for or have you ever worked for JC? I have, and I used to sign people on. It is very unlikely that they would enforce somebody seeking work when they already have a job - it is very easy to 'prove' you have been looking though and that's all that the OP needs to do.
