What to do in Bath and Portsmouth

We will be arriving Monday leaving Thursday, so I guess it would not be possible to use your car park?
Nope it's in use those office hours, only empty at weekends. The site quotes £8 for up to 11 hours. I would need 24 hour parking can you confirm?
Yes, it's 24 hours but doesn't charge overnight (except £1 if you arrive after 6 and leave before midnight). Another option is to use one of the park & rides. It's £2.50 adult return, so that would be £10 for 4 days as opposed to £32 or £84.
Depends really on how important that CCTV is to you.
The bus rides are quoted as 10 minutes but that's laughable at busy times.
I'd probably go for the long stay at £8 per day. You get CCTV and you can drop off the luggage beforehand.0 -
How old are you children??
There is a fab outdoor park called Victoria Park which is just outside Bath. Also has a very scenic park to walk through.
You could make a day trip to Bristol which has plenty to do.0 -

I shall probably do that then, thanks again for your help :A"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Can anyone suggest other things to do in Bath with children? They've recently been to the baths, so we don't want to go again so soon.
I'd second Victoria Park if the weather's lovely. It's brilliant for children of all ages and as well as an amazing play area there is a skatepark and acres of green space so take a frisbee or football to play with as well. There's also a crazy golf place too although we've never used it.
Or what about a 'Treasure' Hunt http://www.huntfun.co.uk/Bath.php
If it's not very nice then I would head over to @Bristol (Bristol's only 8 miles or so from Bath) or visit the Egg Theatre which was designed specifically for children :j

froddington wrote: »Ideas for Portsmouth
As already mentioned: Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower; Historic Dockyard with Mary Rose, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, Action Stations and loads more; boat trip around the harbour
Also - Southsea Castle, Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum, D-Day Museum, City Museum, some of the local forts, Blue Reef Aquarium ...........
You can do a City Sightseeing bus tour to get your bearings and find out more about the city.
Great place for a meal and the most amazing array of scrumptious cakes (over 30 choices last time I went!) is The 10th Hole.
Feel free to PM me if you want any more info - I've lived here for over 30 years!!
Hi froddington,
I've just won a free family ticket to the Spinnaker tower. How long do you think a visit there is likely to take? (on a Saturday).
I'm looking for other things to do but the kids have done a Mary Rose trip with school (plus looking for the cheapest options
)
What's southsea castle like? Much to see? Would a visit take very long?
Looking to occupy two high school boys for more than 5 minutes
(didn't even know southsea had a castle, but then my only visits to Portsmouth/Southsea have been to attend various gigs at the Pyramids and the Wedgewood Rooms) and a bit of wandering around before hand.
Thanks

Hi! I spent well over an hour up the Spinnaker Tower looking at everything - but I was spotting all the places I know! There are 2 levels (one with the glass floor, which your boys will probably like!). The queue to get in can get quite long at weekends, especially if it's nice weather, so I would advise getting there as early as possible.
Not an expert on what high school boys like, but I like Southsea Castle and enjoy walking round the ramparts and you can go into the underground tunnels. I guess a couple of hours would be long enough but not sure as last time I went I was with a group tour and we had extra activities booked.

Your boys may prefer the D-Day museum which has lots of life size exhibits.

Both are on the seafront so you have the beach and Southsea Common to run around on!
Really depends on what they're into, I guess.
There are often special events happening here so worth looking for the dates you are coming.

Thanks froddington, that's great. Ramparts and tunnels will be fine to occupy them for a while

Had a great time in Bath>
Jamie Olivers Italian serves very good food at reasonable prices
Found a top class Indian
The pump room is rather nice
The roman baths were far larger than I had imagined from the outside
The bath comedy tour was well worth £8
We used Portsmouth as our base for the Goodwood Revival weekend. There was lots to see and do @ Gunwharf Quays."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
