Don't bother pressing any buttons on the switchboard and just wait after about 3 warnings you will get through to a real person
  • I've been trying for to get through to them for days now. So frustrating

The 0141 number has now been pulled.
Also, see this thread, it implies that the only operational number one is the 0845 300 50 90 and it's a joke.

Finally wrote to my MP, who in turn has written to the CEO of Student Finance England. Maybe more of you should have a go, the more pressure, the more they will be aware of how incompetent the new system is.

Just as the person who made the announcement on TSR, the 0845 number is the only number that is supposed to be used by students to contact SFE. All other numbers go through to wrong departments, and although they'll transfer you through, students add to the backlog by doing this.

I had to call them last night with a query for my Daughter and got through after only a few minutes at about 7.15pm.

Have you tried first thing in the morning or even just before they close or even first thing on a Sunday morning.

    Good luck!:rotfl:

They are available 8am to 8pm 7 days a week so you can always try later on during the day or first thing on a morning. Weekends are usual quieter.

The alternative numbers for student finance helplines are as follows:

    Student Finance England 0845 300 5090 / 0141 243 3600
    Student Finance Wales 0845 602 8845 / 0141 243 3960
    Student Finance Northern Ireland 0845 600 0662 / 0141 243 3591
    Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) 0845 111 1711 / 0131 476 8212

All these alternatives are answered in exactly the same way with the same menu as the respective 0845 numbers. This means that calls will be put through to the same advisors.

I'm not sure what the 0141 243 3929 was, I don't recall trying it. There are other geographical (0141 etc) numbers that may or may not be those that students will be put through to when they call via the main menu.
  • If you get a recorderd message put the phone down and redial. It took me four hours last timeto get through. Useless company!
  • Does anyone know an email address for Student Finance? I want to send a complaint

    Thanks

    the complaints procedure is here.

but i just wanted to echo the advice of an earlier poster and suggest writing to your MP instead (maybe copying the slc people in). you can find out how to contact your MP at www.writetothem.com or send letters to The House of Commons, Westminster, SW1V 0AA, or google their website for their email address.

MPs employ staff to help their consituents deal with this sort of issue, a stiff letter from them usually shifts things along! in my experience complaints procedures are of limited value if what you want is a quick solution, though it doesn't hurt to do this as well.

i can't believe they haven't sorted out this system better. when i was first studying (15 years ago eek!) i had the same problem and it was pretty desperate. i did write to my MP though what really shifted things was that I wrote to the guardian (the problem was not so well publicised back then) and they printed it - my cheque, and a grovelling apology, arrived two days later.

    good luck!
