n-power chasing for money 12 months on
Options
Is there anybody who could shine some light on where I might stand with this bill that I received. I left n-power over 12 months ago and now have received a final payment bill saying that I owe £97.70 estimated on what I used, Can they still try and claim this money after such a long period of time.

Welcome to the forum.
It depends when they raised the bill.
In the highly unlikely event that they neglected to raise a bill for over 12 months after you left npower, then they cannot claim the money. However they know this ruling very well so it is unlikely that this is the case.
However if they did raise a bill within the 12 months(from the time the new utility company became your supplier) then you are liable for the bill.
The important factor is to determine if their end meter reading on the bill(estimated or not) is the same as the start meter reading on your new supplier's bill.0 -
Thankyou for your reply, The bill is from jan 08 to july 08 just over 13 months ago, When I ring up to resolve the bill is the a consumer law or act that I could quote to them or is it just a case of it being over 12 months they won't be able to collect the money.0

The important factor is what date was the bill raised, not the period of the bill.
Are you at the same address?
You need to read the billing code.
http://www.energy-retail.org.uk/AbouttheCode.htmlThe Code includes a requirement for consumers to be protected from debt where the supplier is at fault for not billing energy supply. Where the supplier is at fault, consumers cannot be back-billed beyond 12 months from the date on any subsequent bill.0
