    How old is your computer?

Check if you have any free PCI slots. If your PC is less than 6 years old, its a pretty good bet it will. They are usually white.

Then get yourself a USB 2.0 PCI card. You can probably pick one up for about a tenner. In fact, Scan sell one at £4.34! (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=391640)

All you need to do is pop open your case, remove a blanking plate and pop the card in.

As long as you are using Windows 2000 and above then your PC should just recognise it.

If you are using windows 2000 and above it should already have USB 2.0 in it already though.

Not all the time. If you have a MOBO that only supports USB1, Then loading it with W2000 or above will not turn the USBs into USB2. You would need a PCI card to do this.

This is purely a software issue. Buying a PCI card will make no difference, they are marketed as 'USB 2' purely to let you know they can handle the speed.

Installing Service Pack 2 for genuine XP should fix it straight away.

Nope, software will not turn a USB1.1 spec port into a USB2.0 spec port.

Also, note that a USB2.0 cable is different from a USB1.1 cable.

    hi peeps,
my Gigabyte motherboard GA-7ZXE has usb1 and usb2 on its board, and the manual says to set a jumper to use usb2. I suppose I would have to just get a cable that has the sockets for usb2 to use it.It doesn't say anything about getting a card.tweeter

Some MOBOs only have USB1 built in. These would need a PCI card to add USB2

Some MOBOs have both USB1 and USB2 built in. These would not need an additional PCI card for USB2.

Some MOBOs, only have USB2 built in.

Checking the specs available on the Internet, your motheboard has 2 USB ports onboard and 2 USB ports using cable but they're all USB version 1.1 and not USB version 2.0.
