How much is the average for selling and buying fees to solicitors?

Just wondering what people have paid in total for everything start to finish.
I'm selling a 20 year old leasehold property and buying a 12 year old freehold place and just wondered what ball park figure I'd be looking at as it will be handy for quotes.

I paid about £850 (excluding service charges and ground rent that was due on the leasehold), but this was below stamp duty threshold.

Ok well this is going from my recent experiences of what we have been quoted. Unfortunately I didn't realise until we came to selling that lease hold properties tend to incur extra charges.
Selling
Solicitors fees of around £550 + VAT
Leasehold surcharge around £80ish - £100
If you have a mortgage another charge potentially up to £50ish.
Telescopic bank transfer £35
Buying
Solicitors fees of around £600-£700 + VAT
Various disbursements including stamp duty, land registry (depending on price of property), and some cheeky solicitors charge for the Stamp Duty Land tax whilst others consider it part of the overall service.
All in all for us selling a flat at £175k and buying a house at around £215k its looking to cost £3,600ish all in. Thats excluding the mortgage arrangement fees, any additional searches.

All I can say is that for me in the 3% stamp duty bracket, solicitors are cheap compared to estate agents...For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0
