Eon Plans
Options
My current Eon price protection 17 plan ends on the 1st October and like many i have been offered a new plan, which i don't want as its expensive. At first i was keen to swap to another supplier, but on reflection i don't think i want the hassle i had when switching from EDF to Eon a few years back,it took months to sort out the electric side of the switch and many phone calls. I have had a look with energy switch and while Eon is not top of the list, the savings made by switching are not a great deal, and i'm not really bothered in the small cash offers by the likes of uswitch ect. My question is with two of the plans offered by Eon..Saveonline with standing charge, and Saveonline without standing charge. I understand the standing charge bit, but which is the better plan.

Hi denwyn,
Both of the plans you mention will be very similar, and the financial aspect will probably not be noticeable.
The standing charge version of any tariff usually benefits very low users, for example if you only used 900 kWh per year you would pay for every unit at the primary rate (more expensive).
However there are very few people who use such a small amount of energy to benefit from this version of the tariff.
The main reason both are offered is because feedback suggested there was a number of customers who preferred to pay a flat rate for energy plus a daily standing charge, rather than having a tariff where the standing charge is effectively built in to two tiers of unit prices.
In your case (unless you’re a very low user) I’d simply pick which ever would suit you best, it’s a case of which you prefer rather than either being of any financial benefit to you.

Im on a key meter for electric and gas...dp you company offer a key meter tariff. and how competitive is it?One day some company will do what they say they will do and charge a fair charge.:T
Not doing the opposite of that which they promise and charge you a fortune for the privileged.
Or maybe not:mad:0 -
Hi biggaz26,
We do support the prepayment key meters, and do have a prepayment electricity and gas tariff available.
I can’t post the figures here but if you pop your annual consumption figures into one of the comparison sites, located in the resource bar, you’ll be able to see how we compare to the other energy suppliers for prepayment price.
If you don’t have an idea of your annual usage, ask your current supplier for this and they should provide you the details.

No it doesn't.
If you (as mentioned, very unusually) use less than 900 kWh the no standing charge version of a tariff is cheaper. If you use 900 kWh or more there will be no difference (other than rounding errors of pennies per year). (That is, unless E-on have a peculiar tariff structure that is different from every other supplier. Since E-on are not prepared to publish their tariffs openly it isn't easy to check.)0 -
(Well, according to uswitch, their tariffs are not peculiar. £1018.33 vs £1018.65. So one day's standing charge is higher than the annual difference in price!!!)
Unless it's just a silly mistake how can anyone think that a standing charge tariff will benefit low users? Some may suspect (not me, no sir) you are deliberately misadvising customers to ensure you get a fairer* (higher) sum from low users.
* I don't think it's unfair to charge low consumers more for their energy. It's irritating, but not actually unfair.0 -

Hi Kim,
You're spot on, I've put this the wrong way around, thanks for pointing it out.
The No standing charge version would be cheaper for anyone who uses less than 900 kWh per yeah, the 900 kWh is the E.ON threshold and that's why I've used this figure.
As an example denwyn, if a customer is on a No standing charge tariff and uses 200 units, they would pay 200 x 21.130 pence (using a standard price) equals £42.26.
On the Standing charge version of the same tariff, you would pay 365 x 26.950 (daily standing charge) equals £98.37 plus a further £20.40 (200 x 10.200 pence). A total on this tariff of £118.77.
Again my apologies for the mix up. Thanks again Kim.

Brian. Any chance you could take a look at my query at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=19356610

Hi superdon,
Not a problem, happy to help, Malc has the day off so I'll take over in his absense.
The cancellation fee is applied on the basis of you breaking the terms of your contract. So as long as the physical end date of the account falls after the 1st October 2009 the fee will not be applied.
The initiation date of a change of supplier won't cause the fee to be applied. So in effect if you arrange a transfer today we won't apply it unless the transfer completes and your end date falls before the 1st October 2009.
A transfer between suppliers isn't written in stone and can vary, the usual time frames quoted are 4-8 weeks.
Arranging such a transfer now should be okay, it's only around two weeks until the contract end date and the change will definitely not complete in two weeks.
Any other questions please feel free to ask.

Thanks.
I am moving over to EDF. One final query for you. If I go online and switch to another tariff, will I be liable for the £35 fee? Its just the switch is likely to go beyond Oct 1st and I dont want to be paying the higher prices of the R1 deal.
If I will have to pay, I will just wait until the 1st and go on and switch for the week or two.0 -
