there's only the boyfriend and I so we should manage completely ignoring him.
If he's still as bad once he's had 2 weeks without me (im away and my boyfriend is better at the 'treat em mean' part of life) I will take him to the vets to check he is ok
I feel better that he's normal now! my parents cat is old now and doesn't eat much and so that's what I am used to... bless Bootsie has little footsteps to fill.If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
the trouble is we spoil them to start with giving them little treats when they look at you with those eyes and you reward them and we do it again and again and they get used to it, you - then start to think its the cast fault but it isnt, its ours and we dont realise what we have created.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Please ask the vet for advice - we are not experts on here and do not know your puddy cat - it may be he's greedy or something like that or it may be medical - but, better safe that sorry.....

There arent many medical things that cause an increase in appetite. The only one that I can think of are tumours (but other signs of being unwell as well so I dont think thats the case here at all) and hyperthyroidism which is common in cats but very rare in one so young! I think he's just being a greedy pie and trying you to get more food!0

As long as your feeding him enough and it sounds like you are then i'd ignore his requests for more food. The danger is that if you give him more then he needs then he could put on an unhealthy weight. My Bengals were greedy but the more they were ignored the more fed up they got trying to get round us. I also never ever allow my Bengals or pup anywhere near us when there is food about and when we are eating. I have taught them to stay away when we are fed. I just cannot stand begging animals sitting there drooling after our food. Put him in another room or something whilst you eat your Tea.0

can he eat dry food? quality dry foods are very nutritious and filling. might be worth trying Hills or James Wellbeloved - they seem to fill up my boys very well...!0

we went to bed chatting about this and I think we are the problem... he was a rescue cat who had a bad life and was all scraggly and sad....so we fed him treats to get him to like us, we fed him treats to get him in his basket, we fed him treats to get him to come inside... you can see where that is going.
I'm planning to ignor him today and close the dining room door when we eat, hopefully he won't hate us.
He's got a jab appointment in October when I will ask the vet.
I will also get some decent quality dry food for him- as it would let him 'snack' if he wants to but we can control it.
Thank you for all yoru advice :jIf you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0
