Can I use a regular pay-as-you-go SIM in my Mobile Broadband modem ?

Options
Have an unused Vodafone SIM , can I chuck it into my unlocked Broadband Modem then phone customer services to switch the SIM to Mobile Broadband Pay as you go tariff ?

Or do I need a specialised SIM ?

I think with Vodafone you need a special SIM.
  • I checked this up - turns out that all SIMs are created equal ! i.e. all of them (from regular talk SIMs) are compatible in mobile broadband modems, it's simply the case of phoning customer services up and informing them that you'd like to switch your pay as you go SIM to a mobile broadband tariff and you're sorted.

That would be good news for those who think that they need to buy a Vodafone dongle in order to obtain the £15 for 1GB package with no time limit from Vodafone.

Did you check if that were the case?
  • Get your dongle unlocked (sim free),buy an iphone sim from ebay, these have the web bolt on free for 12 months.Top it up with a tenner then 12 months web for the price of a tenner.

Hasn't it been said that the modem is already unlocked?

Correction ! You can use a normal payasyougosim SIM (at least for Vodafone) but the SIM will be on a different tariff (more expensive) than the data tariff available when you buy a Modem Dongle + SIM package.
