Ipod Mini 4gb refurbs by Apple £87.50 (merged)

Recived mine, it's very nice but I can't put any music on it! It comes with a USB that only works with USB 2.0 and my computers all only have the old version 1. I've never ever previously seen a non-backwards-compatible USB device.
The ipod can also do firewire, which I have, but it looks like you have to buy some special firewire docking station before you can use that.I ♥ MSE0 -
You might just need (Windows Xp) Service PAck 2.
Using USB 2.0 without it is a bit of a headache (IMHO).0 -
Don't need a special firewire dock -just the correct IPOD cable. £10 from Maplin!!0

Check out ebay for firewire cables and other bits you may need some are a good price.
Since fixing my own ipod as you may have seen from previous post I am now in the process of getting the bits to fix my niece's. So have seen just how much repair stuff is on ebay.
Mmmmm... maybe I could make some extra cash fixing ipods.0 -
mine arrived on friday, but it didn't come with a mains charger like the original first generation minis...did anyone else get one?0

Not to make this an ipod rant but have you ever thought about why they do not make the batteries removable?
A thin lithium battery would fit easily into the smallest (even a shuffle) one. They don't allow this because they would loose money. Fair enough, the people who require to charge once a week for a whole year will be ok but the heavy users will kill the battery sooner.
Rather than address the battery issue IPOD release new players to entice you into paying an excessive amount for some design orientated lump of plastic. Take my advice: stick with players whose batteries are replacable, they are very hard to come by though so look around!!
Example:
Iriver h10 reduced from 220 to 130 here (v.good sennheiser headphones:mx400) + photo + text file reader + radio
Manual here here
Replacement battery seems to be only for 5/6GB version:
Battery = 29 euros plus shipping 23 euros = £40 (available from website iriver or for less than £20 from "other" sites (at own risk))
Player = £120 here
I would go for the 20gb, the battery is supposed to be replaceable.
EDIT: Battery for £13 on amazon player for 6gb for 120, 20gb for 140.Link now removed! sorry0 -
These things are weird... look it made me close this MSE thread before I could install its software!

I ordered one of these Minis on Tuesday and it arrived today in perfect condition. It's for my son who was desperate for an iPod but would damage a Nano. They are cheaper from Apple with a year's guarantee than they are second hand on Ebay. I have a Nano and the other half has a 20 gig and we love our iPods.0

Well I ordered mine last week and got it in a matter of days! Only just started playing with it though cos plugged it into USB port on front of my pooter and it wouldn't charge up. Just tried the ones at the back tonight and it's charging and all my itunes tracks already on there so I guess I'll have to see how the battery lasts once I start using it!Good wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.0
