  • Thanks for the info and I am not sure if this is the right place/appropriate to post this, however I am sure someone will tell me if it's not and therefore I appologise in advance.

I thought I would give you my opinion and experience with ipods.

I purchased an Ipod 4gb this time last year, brand new from the ipod store in Regent Street. After six months the battery was no good and would not charge properly or hold the charge kept saying no power remains.

I had been using/charging it correctly and used ipod updater.

It was still under guarantee so I went back to the ipod store and they replaced it for me with another new one.

Guess what same problem occured again about six months later but now out of guarantee so completely useless.

This has happened to other people I know so personally I would not buy another ipod. But this is my personal opinion and I am sure others have no probs.

I too have a 4gb (gen1) ipod mini and have had battery problems.

It was bought just prior to Easter '05 from John Lewis and it never matched the advertised battery life. I tried returning it to JL but they told me to send it to Apple.

I decided to persevere but after about 8 months the charge was lasting about 90 minutes so I sent it off. Apple then sent the same unit back saying there was no fault. I knew there was a fault and that others had had problems so had no real option other than to buy the 1 yr extended warranty from apple which I duly did.

I then sent it back about 2 weeks before the original 1yr warranty ran out as the battery life was now less than 10 minutes! This time they gave me a new unit and the battery life on this one is good, although now there is a software glitch on it as the menu button does not always work, so I will be sending it back to apple once again.

Don't get me wrong, the ipod mini is a nice enough player - easy to use and everything, but don't expect it to play for too long.

i agree the battery is a problem, however a battery is a consumable and a replacement can be had on ebay for about 6 quid and it is easy to replace.

When you think about how much of time is wasted dealing with these companies you may aswell do it yourself!!!!

Thanks I didn't know this so it's off to ebay now I was going to buy a Zen player that a friend recommended.

So you have just saved me some money. Providing I can manage to install the new battery:confused:

My Ipod mini battery lasted 18 months, and then it would no longer hold it's charge even if you did not use it.

I bought a new battery kit from Ebay and replaced it myself.

I would not say it was easy, but not that difficult either, and I have worked in electronics repair, so am familiar with taking small electronic items apart. But it should be within the scope of anyone that is capable of reading simple instructions from the sheet of paper enclosed with the kit.

My Ipod mini now works fine.

I cannot say anything about how good these are... don't use apple ipods. Many people like to it.

I posted an offer, which is good for this type of item. Apple provide free delivery, plus one year warranty. They will be gone by the end of day - trust me, unless apple has so many to sell. So this is the right place.

Apod 20GB is also avalable from Refurb. store.

Just bought a phillips 20 gb refurb from electrical-deals.co.uk for £75 in p&p. much larger hd but not too sure on the quality -- apparently there are issues with the battery charging - hey hopefully it won't be that bad!
