is my home now unsellable

my neighbour next door had been renting his house out to private tenants ,but now he is renting it out through the council to homeless people ,now some of the tenants have been lovely but now there seems to be a quick turnover of tenants as in new tenants every 12 weeks or so .

if i was selling would i have to tell the new buyers that the property next door is being used as temporary housing for the council .

if so would this put a lot of people off purchasing

You would only have to tell if you were asked the direct question.
If I were you I would get out ASAP.

You don't have to tell them. If they ask, you do have to answer honestly. I doubt many people would ask ... if a viewer saw people coming/going, are they likely to think something like this?

There's nothing wrong with homeless people, but if they're homeless because of drink, drugs, violence problems then they'll look and behave shabbily as they go in/out.
  • most of the tenants have been lovely ,and i dont think people would actually notice unless told ,i was just wondering if it was something you had to disclose like you do if you have any trouble with neighbours .
most of the tenants lately have been young pregnant girls .
they might wonder why young pregnant girls are living in a 3 bed house though
  • Been stung by this twice.... its the first question i ask and the last if the answer is yes....

Im sure some are nice but ive had some real pond life living next to me.

    Get out fast....
  • Have you officially been told or had cause to complain?

If not then you may be on firmer ground. Just deny you knew.

I think you just have to say the house is let you dont know them, that is the truth.

No - you do not have to openly offer the information. If a buyer asks then you cannot lie but you have not formally complained so therefore you have no legal grievance. You may find their company pleasant and find it socially satisfying to know that people are being housed in such a nice area. So until you complain, its a personal opinion.

As an EA I feel that under the Property Mis Act policed by Trading Standards that not to disclose (an omission) is just as bad in that law as telling an untruth. So if you use an EA they may well feel it has to be mentioned.
