Default with o2...
I ran a credit check through 'Check my file' and it reported that i have a default with O2 for £46.
The only info it gives me on the credit file is:
Lender name: O2 UK Limited
Account holder name: H*** ****
Address: 6 Wh****** ******,*************,***********,*****
Date of birth: 8th April ****
Accountholder status: Normal
Start date: 1st March 2004
Account type: Telecommunications supplier
Account status: Default
Last updated: 1st August 2009
Current balance: £46
Opening balance: £46
Account start date: 1st March 2004
Repayment frequency: Monthly
Lump payment: £0
Default date: 14th October 2005
Original default balance: £46
There is no account number on there or telephone number that i can use for referance.
I had a contract with o2 a few years ago, so this must be where the debt has come from, however i have not been aware that thre was the outstanding debt.
I called O2 to try and get this sorted out, spoke to a lady who told me she couldnt find an accoutn adn even if she could she couldnt help me without a referance number because of the 'data protection act' I may not be who i say i am.
In the end the lady told me to email what details i had to: creditfilereferal@o2.com and they would get back to me. I emailed them on the 2nd September, and todate have still not had a response.
I am not sure where to take this now, obviously there must be a record of the debt somewhere as it even shows above THEY last updated my credit file with 'd' on the 1st August 2009.
Can anyone give me any advise on what i should do now? or how i can speak to someone about this, as i want it sorting out, it is seriously affecting my credit rating!
Many thanks
Holly

rHi Holly
Firstly i would go back to the credit ref agency you got your credit profile from? i take it was from experian? so i'd phone them and talk to them about it
If not i'd go to you local citizens advice bureau?
o2 SHOULD have some record other it wouldn't be on their! I also have a default from NEXT that i dont recall off and now its stuck on my profile for 7 years!0 -

Thanks for the advise, the credit report was from checkmyfile .com (got all 3 credit ref agencys reports) it shows on them all.
the company themselves cant do much about it, they jut provide the report not the content that is on it.
citizens advise is useless, its all voluntary workers, so they never answwer phone and they are only open silly times of the day (when im at work) then the evenings they do open they never answer the phone to book appointments and the sign on the doors say 'you must have an appointment' so im writing them off too!
I may send my email to o2 again and give them a call this afternoon see what they say again.0 -

You are entitled to get information from O2 through the Data Protection Act. Should that show that you owe nothing, then copies of that should be sent to the 3 credit reference agencies with a demand, under the Data Protection Act, that they remove the incorrect information from your file.
They are obliged to do so - it is one of the 8 principles - and confirm that they have, otherwise they are in breach of the aAct and the Information Commissioner's Office will step in, if asked.0 -
Finally, just got off a LONG telephone call with O2.
Called the fraud department, and a guy there managed to give me the account number & mobile number that this debt related to.
I then rang the debt assistance line with the correct details and managed to get to the bottom of the debt. (it was from an old contract with them that i cancelled my direct debit a month too early)
I have made the £46 payment over the phone today, so over the next month or so it should update my credit report with the correct infomration that this debt is now settled.
thanks for your help guys.0
