You could be onto something there.
eee pc 701 - or similar
two web cams with high FR/S
It is wireless so can download info when in home network area.

this could work out nicely, need to look a bit more into this......

You'd have to be nuts to leave lots of expensive electronics sitting in your car all the time.

Still, you might find it amusing in an ironic sort of way when your security system is stolen.

True, I am a bit nuts.
Hence trying to keep costs to a minimum.
Not really that much different to having a £100 stereo from Halfords!

Exactly, and its pretty easy to hide an eee pc, or take it out if you want to. And if someone does nick it, hopefully you'd get photos of their mug!

Ahha.....how would you get pics of their mug, if they have the computer?

3g dongle if out of wifi range - upload to my server every second or so is how I would have done it.

I suppose this would also allow the police to use the 3G signal (as they all have a unique id) to track.....ok maybe too much CSI.......

haha, perhaps. Or even a hidden bluetooth GPS device which uploads data to your server over 3g or even sms and logged via a database incase someone nicks the car. Could link it to google earth and watch your pride and joy disappear 'live'

And how much would uploading video 24/7 with a 3G dongle cost?

ok ok ok....this is getting to be massive now, so much for a cheap incar CCTV system. It now autosenses if it is in range of home wireless, then changes to 3G when not in range.
if someone steals it it will relay pictures back to the server, and we can track the system by using a bluetooth GPS and google maps......

    I hear dragons den calling.....

  • Ive built several of these for people and the usual favourite place is either in the boot or under one of the seats, mini-itx online store have in car cases, to build a complete mini-itx based unit that does actually do all of the above features would come to about 250 quid, and thats for GPS, wifi, and bluetooth.

    regards
