What have I done wrong?

Downloaded both Opera and Firefox. Was getting nicely used to Opera. Have started to use firefox. Imported bookmarks etc.
On laptop, I can't open Opera at all anymore.
On house PC, whenever I open Opera and click on a bookmark, it automatically diverts and opens in firefox.

I never accepted using either as default browser. I wanted to get used to both and then make a preference. What seems to be the problem? Any ideas?

I think mozilla is set as the default browser. Whatever browser you want to use the most set that as the default and it should fix the problem!

Thanks but no that didn't work.
It still opens up in Firefox when I click a link in Opera. Weird.

Ok I tried this and still not working. Before I reinstalled firefox, Opera wouldn't open as it was looking for firefox.exe. After I reinstalled it, Opera just diverts to firefox again. What a nuisance. Opera is set up as the default program though.

hmmmmm did you reinstall them both? If not uninstall them both and try again, this problem is becoming more and more frequent, for some reason they dont seem to like each other or any other browser for that matter.

Yeah that's what I tried. I seem to be stuck with firefox now which is a shame as I quite liked Opera. It all went wrong when I exported the Opera bookmarks. I'm fairly sure up to then I was able to access both.

I keep uninstalling. When I just reinstall Opera, it can't open properly and says program mozilla/firefox.exe not found. Interestingly the Opera page still contains all my bookmarks on the toolbar so it can't have deinstalled properly and is picking up some information stored within the machine somewhere.
I do the normal deinstall from control panel and then looked at program files and deleted Opera and Firefox folders that were there. Is there anywhere else I should look?

This is a very bad case, of what i can only describe as programs merging into each other, I dont really know any way to fix this other than attempting to do a system Restore (accessed via system tools in accessories) if you have Windows ME/XP not 2k, and setting your computer back to its state of the last time it worked.

Thanks anyway. I think I'll just have to settle for Firefox. I might do more damage doing a system restore. Have never done that before.....unless you can put my mind at rest and tell me it's a doddle to do with XP?

Yeah it is, no messing with Cds, although you do is select a date to send your computer back to and your computer will change all its settings back to then. It turns off your computer starts up, makes the changes itself then turns itself back off and on again.

    Simple
