Inspiring indeed :T Seems like a few people have taken a decision like that lately - I certainly have with filling in surveys/taste radar balanced against finishing PhD - no brainer really! :rotfl: Good luck, like PIppi I'm looking forward to reading about your journey!

(oh, and I've been thinking about the question you posted on MG's thread earlier - I have some thoughts, but having just written PhD for 2 hours solidly (:T) I don't have the energy to put them into words right now - can only manage chit chat and mindless wiffle :rotfl: But will get back to you soon, promise!)

one goal was stopping scrabbling for income to live a more bountiful life. I know "scrabbling" is extremely perjorative, but thats how I *feel* when I do things like mystery shopping. So unless a mystery shop comes up that I'm really curious about, or is *really* special, I'm going to stop doing them. And I'm going to use all my but lins money this weekend. I'll keep doing Vir gin and TA B while they're giving us money, but thats it. I want to be on mse for:
    - the inspiration from and connection to the community, on a day to day and a deeper level.
    - the money neutral way of doing things - deals, vouchers, craftwork, putting things together yourself, I've always yearned to do that, and tho I don't *want* to do it for this Christmas, I'll do it for next year.
    - the money neutral way of having holidays! To have a holiday again - one that I choose, where and when I choose, oh that would be nice.
    :D
you could do bits yourself though, at least start thinking about how you will have a money neutral holiday or Christmas.
Sounds a good plan to me KC as I have already shared on MGs thread I have given up stuff where the time/money equation just doesn't add up I think we are worth more than that and we need to put a proper value on our time and as you say stop "scrabbling" so that we can reach higher goals that's not to say that when things are desperate scrabbling is not sometimes a necessity but it needs to be for a limited crisis time and we need to acknowledge when that time has passed and move on to other things

    DTxx

I think that's such a good point, in the early days when I was in a crisis situation, I tried doing daily clicks etc. but it found it too time consuming. Again, when I lost my job, I did all sorts, but then carried on with them. Realised recently that actually I don't need them any more. I still do some surveys as I like the idea that I get a say in stuff, but have cut down on the rest of it.

As for your question on MG's thread about green stuff, will think of a proper reply, but one of the things that bothers me is:- although the products may be greener are they more complicated to manufacture, therefore costing the planet more? Does that make sense?

    Hi KC,

I really hope that you enjoy the freedom of not 'scrabbling' any more. I used to finish my work-job, get in, feed DD & start home-job & then when that was done move on to the online-jobs :(. I would feel utterly terrible if I didnt manage to complete a survey before it's closing date & would also feel robbed if I did complete a section of one & then get screened out.

I also took the brave step of backing away from a share in an allotment. To some it may seem crazy; but the reduction in stress ( always feeling guilty when I wasnt there) , time saved by not preparing for a visit & travelling there have proved worth it.

The wonderful thing about this site is that there are just so many ways to discover how we can try to reduce our reliance on actual money & every single visit here I learn something new.

    Sounds like interesting times ahead.
I agree that the scrabbling bits aren't worth it due to the time involved.

Well my adage would be: If you're feeling guilty about not doing it, then it's probably not worth doing. There are far more positive emotions to motivate if it was actually worth doing.

  • KC, hope you feel better soon and come up with a non-scrabbling income!
On the holiday front, have you thought of some sort of house swap?

    :hello: Morning all!

Cheery, looking forward to your input on the green questions. Gill, thanks for yours on here, and for more to come :D

As far as the Christmas thing goes, making stuff and whatnot - I think about it endlessly :D I know I have *some* practical creativity inside me, but I don't want to do anything this year. My focus for the rest of this year has to be getting fit and healthy (physically and with the added issues of socialising, dancing and meditating ...), getting the house to order, and getting ready to commit to the trading as a second career.

Lula - thats interesting about backing away from an allotment. There's a great many of them round here, and they're nearly all beautiful - but I have a garden to tend to! And even if my garden was in top notch order, [strike]I 'm really not sure - [/strike] I wouldn't want to spend the extra energy I'll soon have on an allotment. Not unless I'd turned it into a mini-orchard and only had to go and get the fruit and then prune the trees :D And Z, I think Lula was with you on that one, all the way :T Me three!

Today, hmmm, don't want to overtire myself and do a relapse thingy, but sleep last night was a little bit tough, I think I *need* something - maybe just a little walk to the pretty village, through the little nature park.

I've finished but lins! Forever! And I was puttering about on the computer last night, and deleted enough documents to give me 15% clear space - which meant the defragger could work properly, hurray! Little lappie is noticeably speedier, tho still loses connectivity every so often.

I'm definitely on the mend now.

No, I hadn't tbh - in my last house, it was a renovation project from the word go, so not realistic. With this one, by next summer it will be distinctly possible. As long as they don't mind the dogs next door :o
