Hi there - it does make a difference, its really nice. It makes a difference to the whole room, of course ... don't feel *quite* so good this morning, but didn't expect to continue on quite that high. Though my little brain has been working - I've ordered some kitchen shelf pegs - thats what I searched for on ebay. You know the way when the cooker sits in the chimney breast, the cupboards on either side are kind of fake, because they have the chimney breast in them? I've got baking trays and whatnot in them, but I suddenly realised that the sides have those little holes for pegs at a couple of points.... so when I'm well, I'll saw some nice shelving wood I have, glue a bit on the back as a safety thing, and hey presto, lots more storage, for a total outlay of £1.49 for the pegs! I even have some pva glue (builders version - for the mortar work I was supposed to do at the previous place) so shouldn't have to pay out for that either. And the £1.49 came from existing paypal money, so it *feels* free :D

I'm determined to make the most of the storage possibilities in what I've already got, rather than buy new stuff that I may not need once I get my act together :D Cheaper and greener

  • That's a good plan. We were intending to fit another shelf in one of our storage areas but it's not happened yet.....:o

We had mice, what worried me though was when I was told that they don't actually have bladders so they wee fairly constantly wherever they run around
Wasn't sure if it was true, but after hearing that, we got rid of them with those sonic plugs. The cat was useless, I watched a mouse run over the cat's paws and he just yawned :rotfl: (whereas with fledglings and young magpies he was cruel and brutal  even with a bell round his neck)

:rotfl: @ Olive's cat! we're pretty lucky with ours. She works on the basis that if it moves, and is the same size as her, or smaller, it should be pinned down and held onto until she works out whether it might be edible. She usually decides that it is, at which point whatever it was meets a nasty end. Sometimes she applies this principle to feet.

Oh, and I'm afraid the thing about mice being incontinent is true. Sorry if you're eating lunch!

Oh good grief! Mice wee! Well, I've had the sonic thingies going for a week now, so we'll see how that goes .... you know, I just can't think of a smiley that fits *quite* how I feel :rotfl:

I feel like I should have been sleeping in bed today, but I just didn't feel like it - contradictory, I know. Ah well, thats me :)

I was just measuring those spaces again, and the space between the shelves - my nice big glass jars will go on two shelves, so thats them all sorted out (the jars :rotfl:) and I'll have two shelves with only six inches in height, total length 24".... and I just happen to have four *very* heavy cut glass tumblers that I wouldn't be happy putting in a wall cupboard, all ready to go. Which leaves lots of space for cans and this that and the other thats heavy. I do go at things *so* slowly, thats how it feels, but I do recognise I've overdone it recently and left myself with no reserves to fight off a bug. Hey ho.

I might just get dressed now, tho, and pootle out to the local expensive corner shop to buy some cow's milk cheese ... how's that for living dangerously :D

Oh. Something else. In all seriousness, I was doing a "goals" exercise a few weeks ago, and working on it earlier this week (cos I don't implement the long term changes properly, and that leaves me open to infection). Anyway .... one goal was stopping scrabbling for income to live a more bountiful life. I know "scrabbling" is extremely perjorative, but thats how I *feel* when I do things like mystery shopping. So unless a mystery shop comes up that I'm really curious about, or is *really* special, I'm going to stop doing them. And I'm going to use all my but lins money this weekend. I'll keep doing Vir gin and TA B while they're giving us money, but thats it. I want to be on mse for:
    - the inspiration from and connection to the community, on a day to day and a deeper level.
    - the money neutral way of doing things - deals, vouchers, craftwork, putting things together yourself, I've always yearned to do that, and tho I don't *want* to do it for this Christmas, I'll do it for next year.
    - the money neutral way of having holidays! To have a holiday again - one that I choose, where and when I choose, oh that would be nice.

And there are two things that go along with this:
    - I need a second income stream - the one I have, the counselling work, is not going to get me the pleasant, abundant retirement that I want.
    - the time I gain by stopping scrabbling, as I put it, I will use to further my second income stream. I want that to be the trading - I'd imagined that I'd be ready to start looking at it again by now, getting back into the swing of things.

    I'm not! So:

    - get well! Stay well and get fit! Get some local social input and keep it!
    - get the office up and running - this means the plastering has to be done, the fittings fitted and taken out again so I can decorate, the flooring to go down, the furniture to be moved back in, the 0% credit card achieved, the new laptop bought and got used to.

There, I think that should do it :D

  • Sounds a good plan to me KC as I have already shared on MGs thread I have given up stuff where the time/money equation just doesn't add up I think we are worth more than that and we need to put a proper value on our time and as you say stop "scrabbling" so that we can reach higher goals that's not to say that when things are desperate scrabbling is not sometimes a necessity but it needs to be for a limited crisis time and we need to acknowledge when that time has passed and move on to other things

Absolutely! I struggled with not highlighting the whole post :rotfl: thats exactly it - for a while there, I was really, really struggling, and couldn't afford to take the long term view if I was going to meet my commitments. Now that I've not only paid off my debts but downsized, I have the time, and I'm going to go forward in a different way from the last few years.

    Thanks DT
