Hi Squizz! Yep, it is good. Like getting a new mortgage, for instance - it would only be about £10k, so the interest payments are frankly negligible - £12 a month or so. But the fees are huge, when the mortgage is so tiny - £99 for the mortgage, and £275 if I *had* to use a conveyancer. If I have to, its a much better idea to get a cc thats 0% for purchases.

  • That seems a lot in fees for such a small amount. As you say, it may be better to get an interest free deal, but there are better people than me who can advise on that. I'm not savvy enough on borrowing, even with my new MSE head on, its a mystery to me still.

It took me a while to get my head around it too, gill - even when my mortgage was its former size, it made a difference, because it was still quite small compared to ordinary mortgages down here - Hypno's, for instance, is actually quite normal. But because that original one was small (cos it was old!) when all the lenders started upping their fees a few years ago, I noticed it come renewal time - it shows on the apr, not the nominal interest rate that they advertise. Its really sneaky, but perfectly legal.

I've been inputting the mystery shop, and given them a bit of a going over, truth be told, and trying to top up my Oystercard - my cc didn't want to verify, the page wouldn't come up, so I'll try tomorrow, when all the schoolkids aren't looking at X Factor on youtube :)

Morning! I've already been wandering about the board, I've packed up the half dozen mugs and *another* book to take to the charity shop when I'm ready, I've admired the kitchen without its boxes (some are in the pantry, some are with the boxed toilet in the living room :) ) so now I have to get started on stuff. List is already written in my diary, and its mostly phone calls - builders, admin of life, clients. And wash my hair. When I've done that, then I'll do optional stuff - work on the soundproofing, which is still not finished, or cutting back overgrown bushes ready for the bin on Friday. Paid work at 1pm.

Uh oh. I'm procrastinating. I really don't like doing these phone calls. Only thing to do is get them done - I'd love to be drawing pretty mind maps but I know what I have to do - like clairewop on MG's thread, its currently about making the house liveable, I'm still camping, tbh. Onwrds and upwards!

  • *morning* goodluck with the calls.....................I love mind mapping - my brain likes that kind of thinking :)

What are you cutting back (just nosey)

  • Good morning! Sounds like the house is getting there - you seem so much happier there than in the old one :) I must investigate this mind mapping stuff.. although I think a map of my mind would look a bit messy!

I've not got round to *doing* the mindmapping yet - I think its more important to have a base from which to spring out - that was the intention of being in this house, in this area.

What am I cutting back? Everything! This garden is a total of fifty feet long, and down the northern facing border, it has 3 rhodendrons, a double trunked mahonia, a hazel tree, a plum thing, and a few other bits and bobs, plus the shed and a badly gravelled walkway. Its ridiculous! The wire fence at the far end is also solid rhodendron. I might keep one, but the rest are going. The hazel needs to be cut back and trained, the mahonia shown to its full glory. On the other side, there are clumps (plural!) of pampas grass, and two buddleia, which look quite ill. The neighbour at the far end made the point that they're leaning on the spiffy new fence that the previous owner put up, and if that falls down, the two massive great Alsatians next door, and the revolting garden of overgrown grass and nettles that they have as their garden/dogrun, will merge into mine. No way, Jose! So the buddleia have to be cut back as a matter of urgency too, especially since they don't look well. Then I can use the fence waterproofing paint I brought from the last place (which is also decluttering :) ) and start new planting, extending that border, which is south facing.

God I can ramble, can't I! Okay, off for a cuppa tea and those phone calls - I went off to wash my hair, thought I'd better brush the carpet *before* I did that. See you later, folks

    xxx

Go on KC, pop back in and tell us how you got on! :) That's often what I do when faced with a nasty old phone call - ring someone else before hand, tell them waht I'm trying to do, then ring them back again after I've done it. you can use us :D

    :hello: Hiya!

Well, I got through most of it - didn't ring the builder, but I have just arranged for a Gas Safe Engineer to come round and talk about the whine the programmer is making. It probably won't make it when he comes round, but he doesn't charge a callout fee, and I'll give the maintenance work to him for that, I think.

Work done, all the other phone calls done, and one visit from Wol duly accomplished :kisses3: I bought the right cheese too :D, and it was a lovely visit. She energised me so much I got straight out into the back garden and started to cut back one of those dratted rhodendrons - the one by the shed is very little, so if I keep it well trained, I might keep it.

But erm, I'm hungry again! Better go eat something, and have a quick canter around the diaries too.

xxx to all you lovely people.
