I love this house on the edge of boston spa but not so sure about the location - its an ex council house (do people generally avoid ex council houses?) and i already know i would paint the outside but what do you think. its a great price for Boston spa and is right on the outside of the village but obviously not the best address or the price would be unmanageable. I'm not buying a house to make a profit - i'm just looking for a home. I ve driven down the street and it seems quiet.
Would the fact its an ex council house put you off - or that off Grove Road is a few more council houses - although to be fair i'm not sure if they have been bought out too!
Sorry for rambling post but its such a big decision and i love love love the inside and the garden

I am finally understanding what money can do for me!

Maybe just me, but that place looks fine! As for ex council, what is the real problem? Especially if most are now private?0

It looks really nice. Being ex-council wouldn't put me off, the north facing garden might though."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

Looks lovely, are there many other privately owned council houses around that area.
Go for it if you like it0 -
It looks really lovely. I wouldn't be put of buying an ex council property but to me that doesn't look like a 'typical' one anyway! I'd snap it up if I was you"I don't want to make money, I just want to be wonderful."

I think its lovely tbh...He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

The only thing that would put me off, is if the neighbours haven't bought, as many who have bought ex council properties have discovered they move in and have lovely elderly neighbours who didnt exercise their right to buy.
Couple of years later, elderly couple die, and you have the chav family from hell housed next to you.0 -
There's a phrase I've heard on this forum before - "Buy the worst house in the best area, not the best house in the worst area". I live on a council estate at the moment and definately wouldn't buy a house there - however this house/area looks a lot nicer than where I live!
If it's mostly all privately owned houses you'll probably be ok, but might be worth visiting the area on Fri/Sat evenings just to check it out then?
I hope it works out for you, as this house looks amazing inside!:www: Saving for a deposit - Target £30k by 24/03/14 (30th Birthday!) :www:

It certainly wouldn't put me off if the area was OK (and some Council estates are really nice- and most of the houses are privately owned). Council houses are normally solidly built and have big rooms. Go for it and good luck.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Well - the house looks absolutely lovely !
I live in housing association flat that was formerlly council at the moment. Soon to be moving to own house though :-) The area is very mixed....some are owners and some are former council tenants who have now moved to the HA. So I have a mix of neighbours - some of whom are lovely and some I cant wait to leave behind. Id try and find out more about your immediate neighbours as if they are still council tennants , you dont know what future tennants you may end up with as neighbours.0 -
Council tennats next door may not be a problem. A BTL investor, renting to DSS tennant could be. You never know."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
