Nokia 5800 Screen/Case protection Advise

Hi,

I have a Nokia 5800 due soon and i am sure i will be very pleased with it reading reviews and trying one in a shop.

My phone will like my N95 8GB will sadly reside in my pocket with my keys so needed decent protection. I used an ZAGG Invisible shield for it and its done okay but the protector is starting to show its age and they don't come cheap. So time to protect the 5800.

I have been reading on here the other 2 topics with regards to 5800 screen protectors and the story is hit and miss and general point to expired ebay links. With the story been its hit or miss and i would like to hit the right one first time :) In addition some are good at glare reduction and others are like mirrors :(

i am aware that there is a proximity sensor which many protectors/cases cover which can play havoc with it from what i have read. But i don't know which are good or bad protectors.

Can anyone recommend what they prefer to protect their 5800?
Screen protector (which one, would love some suggested ebay links)
Case (Plastic or silicone anyone think which one is best)

Below are some i have found already.

I have been looking and i think this would be a decent case
Amazon - *link removed* iTALKonline HYBRID Protection Case/Cover/Skin For Nokia 5800 xPress Music - Black

But i am totally stumped on which screen protector.

Amazon - *link removed* NOKIA 5800 SCREEN PROTECTOR CASE COVER

Case+Screen
Ebay (Really cheap, but i presume poor quality) - *link removed* 2 Screen Protector + Silicone Skin Case Nokia 5800 B

Thats enough jabbering from me, i look forward to reading your replies

  • I bought my screen protectors on Amazon - 5 for £6. I'm on my 3rd now, on my 2nd phone which isn't bad going. Like with all the protectors you have to apply them well, to a clean screen.

I bought a clip-on rubberised case which covers the rest of the phone and protects it.

The only problem I have is the dust that gathers around the edges of the case (I have dusty pockets!)
  • I think we are all guilty of dusty pockets.

Will most likely go with cheaper screen protectors and replace as needed then.

I bought a few screen protectors on eBay for 50p apiece (sorry, no link, I bought them in February). The first one is still in great condition, albeit with a scratch it took in the screen's stead. The other is a spare because I thought I would need one by virtue of the protector being so cheap.

I also use the hard case that came with the phone (I bought my 5800 from Nokia directly, your in-the-box package may vary), to protect it from knocks and drops.
  • Yep, the Nokia 5800 comes with a proper case to protect it, so I'd advise just using it. I did have a screen protector, but it was a real curse to get on. There was always a fine speck of dirt trapped in it, or a small ripple, so in the end I just binned it!

Nope, no case came will my Nokia 5800 but it was from orange. Thankfully thou, most of the orange software seems to be missing too unless they decided not ot cram the phones full of it any more.
The only annoyance is limited firmware updates and changed the product code will void the warranty so i leave it be, unlike my old N95 8GB :)

    Anyway to try a few things i have got;
Nokia 5800 ExpressMusic Soft Touch Hard skin case
2 Screen Protector + Silicone Skin Case Nokia 5800 B
6 x SCREEN LCD SCRATCH PROTECTOR For Nokia 5800, in UK
Soft Leather Case Pouch for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

P.s. Im happy with the switch from N95 8GB to 5800. The phone is feels quicker and i find the touch screen easier to use when texting. Ill be more than happy to share my experiences between N95 8GB to the 5800.

Probably because they're with O2, and they won't give you an N96, and don't sell N97's. In fact I think they've removed the N96's as well now. So it's a choice between the 5800 and the 6700. Both of which are very good phones.

  • I was on Vodaphone, but decided to move to orange due to better signal at home and university. Plus i have had nothing but good experiences with orange customer services on PAYG in the past.
