Really like this one, but I have 3 children (1 to H2B) so it wouldn't be good for us.

Would be lovely for a Mum with one daughter though!

Today is the wedding of more than just two.
We always do something far more than we do.
Today is the birth of a new family:
    One that will fashion
    The one I will be.
    And so as we welcome
    A new man and wife,
I welcome a father whose love changed my life.
I welcome a future together as three:
    My mother and stepfather
    United with me.

:jPerfect for my duaghter to read out! Brill!
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:

  • aww, these are all lovely. without hijacking the thread, does anyone have any ideas for a reading that a child could do? i would like to have one of the girls i nanny for read something, as i know she would have loved to be a bridesmaid but i couldnt afford it. She is a fantastic reader - reading age of 11 but is only 7, so she is very capable, but it still needs to be age appropriate so she understands what she is reading. I was thinking of a childrens short story about love or similar, all i have come up with is 'guess how much i love you' but its not quite what i want. Any other kids books out there people would recomend?

I read this at my own wedding, by Frank Yerby:

You are a part of me. I do not know
By what slow chemistry you first became
A vital fibre of my being. Go
Beyond the rim of time or space, the same
Inflections of your voice will sing their way
Into the depths of my mind still. Your hair
Will gleam as bright, the artless play
Of word and glance, gesture and the fair
Young fingers waving, have too deeply etched
The pattern of your soul on mine. Forget
Me quickly as a laughing picture sketched
On water, I shall never know regret
Knowing no magic ever can set free
That part of you that is part of me.

How about the Owl & The Pu$$ycat? (sorry the filter on here won't let me type p u s s y as one word:eek:

The Owl and the Pu$$ycat went to sea
In a beautiful pea green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five pound note,
The Owl looked up at the stars above
And sang to a small guitar
    'O lovely Pu$$y, O Pu$$y, my love,
What a beautiful Pu$$y you are,
    You are,
    You are!
What a beatiful Pu$$y you are!'

Pu$$y said to the Owl, 'You elegant fowl!
    How charmingly sweet you sing!
Oh let us be married! too long we have tarried:
But what shall we do for a ring?'
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
    To the land where the Bong-tree grows;
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood,
With a ring at the end of his nose,
    His nose,
    His nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.

'Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring?' Said the Piggy, 'I will'
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon.

And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon,
    The moon,
    The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.

    (Edward Lear 1812-88)

I took this from a lovely book of poems and readings for weddings which has been edited by the actress Julia Watson. I think this is suitable for a child to read and something that they can relate to as well.

We are having Marriage by Susan Branch.

When you marry her, love her.
After you marry her, study her.
When she is blue, cheer her.
When she is talkative, By all means listen to her.
If she dresses well, compliment her.
When she is cross, humour her.
If she is jealous, cure her.
If she is lonely, comfort her.
When she looks pretty, tell her so.
Let her feel you understand her.
But never let her know she isn't boss.

When you marry him, love him.
After you marry him, study him.
If he is secretive, trust him.
If he is sad, cheer him.
When he is talkative, listen to him.
Whe he is quarrelsome, ignore him.
If he is jealous, cure him.
If he cares not for pleasure, coax him.
If he favours society, accompany him.
When he deserves it, kiss him.
But never let him know you manage him.

Our 14yo daughter is reading this out for us.
